Looks like Patrick Dempsey is no longer just the studliest fictional doctor in Seattle. He's likely the city’s newest coffee chain owner as well. The actor, known for his McDreamy persona on the television show "Grey's Anatomy," says he's headed for a new role as the owner of Seattle-based Tully's Coffee.

His group, Global Baristas, will pay $9.15 million for Tully's, Dempsey said in a statement. He said the group beat out six other bidders for the company, including local rivals such as Hooters-esque brand Baristas Coffee Co. and Starbucks Corp.

Late Thursday night, after emerging from a closed auction for Tully’s, Dempsey triumphantly tweeted: "We met the green monster, looked her in the eye, and ... SHE BLINKED! We got it! Thank you Seattle!"

An actor can save a coffee chain just as well as any business man.
Free enterprise is a beautiful thing. Let's keep it going strong.

What? Save a coffee chain? Why do I care? Do I CARE? In the words of Monte Walsh, "You can't possibly know how little I care."

I live in Seattle so I have had to listen to the local news gush about Dempsey heading up a group to buy Tulley. So I have had to listen to the local newscaster banter about

"McDreamy" for over a week now.

Straight up I am honestly embarrassed for the way the local news is reported anymore. Here in Seattle every time Starbucks puts out a new drink it is reported like it is news versus what it really is, a free commercial. Absolutely no integrity in journalism anymore, it is pathetic.

Now that his group has purchased Tulleys I hope they make it successful for all the employees that work there and it is not just some little side thing he is doing because he has money to burn, or if it is he let's real business people run it's operations. Based on the tweet it looks like it is just a game for him. What a shallow victory. It is obvious it was not that important to Starbucks since if they wanted it they could of easily outbid Global Barista.

Not a huge fan of Starbucks but the employees would have probably been with better off regarding job security, growth and benefits if Starbucks would have purchased the remaining pieces of Tulley's.

I wish the employees luck that they are treated as the asset they are as any employees is to any company.

Dempsey has a knack for being at the right place at the right time.

I think he will be able to pull it off.

Coffee and tea drinks in all their variety of flavors is such a cheap costing way to reboot the day!
