A child molester? Hell no. They should be thanking their lucky stars someone hasn't killed them. Sick bastards.
A teenager who had sex with his/her slightly younger girlfriend/boyfriend? Yeah, fair enough. Statutory rape isn't quite black and white.

Okay,on more serious note. A child molester/abuser is a very ill individual. Something within them is not "wired" correctly. An adults natural instinct is to protect something smaller... female to protect babies...male to protect family core.
For someone to want to destroy that part of "family" (not necessarily) related. Takes a disconnection from their natural instinct to wanting to destroy. This is something that cannot be reprogrammed, or fixed or "undone" within them.

It's a complex question that is difficult to answer because every case has to be treated in its own way I guess. Every "case" is a human being with feelings and a personality. It seems possible to me that these people can change, but only if they WANT to change. I don't think they will change if change is forced on them.They have to deal with their own feelings about themselves, what they have done, and what they want to do in the future. Unfortunately, other people have to deal with that too, because other peoples' lives have been and could possibly continue to be affected in negative ways because of their feelings. Can child molesters trust themselves? Something must be missing in thier minds, in their mental makeup, or they wouldn't want to do that which they want to do, seems like to me. Why do they WANT to do that?

And I am not saying that child molesters should do the time in prison for the crimes they have done. I think they should pay the price for thier actions.

I don't think they can ever be fully rehabilitated. It's like anything. They can be on the right path for a long time. Then, they get off their path, and molest again.

Words can't express how much I hate these people.. They are disgusting excuses for human beings, and are lucky to even be alive, because god forbid if someone even thought of touching me, Good luck to them.

Maybe, but not without serious psychological therapy/intervention. They may be able to function in other areas of life, but not necessarily be trustworthy around children.

It depends on the actual person and that real crime committed, versus the blanket laws they throw on everyone. In My state, we have 10 year olds who played doctor on the sex registry. Only last year did they fix the problem of Romeo and Juliet offenses. Yet the 10 year old AND Romeo's are all called Child Molesters. That isn't right.

So, can they be trusted again? as a group, no, because all generalizations go for the worst case. However, depending on the individual and the real reasons they were tried for, that needs to be looked at individually.

I have trusted a child molester before. I have a neighbor who was a child molester. Now, he's a goodhearted individual. He did his time, and came to his senses.
Although, I can't say the same for others. So I believe this can't be easily answered, really.
I believe that you can trust former child molesters who were only labeled like so if it was with a teenager of sixteen or seventeen years old. Maybe even fifteen. But fourteen and younger? It'd be hard...

Once they touch a child, they should be put to death. Period, there is no excuse for it and we as a society need to stop pretending like its not a problem. It's a violation of the childrens rights, and we should be more concerned about protecting THEM and their rights. Not the rights of a criminal

Once a predatory animal develops a taste for a particular kind of off-limits victim, they are dangerous from then on. It's why lions who have killed and eaten human beings wind up getting "put down."

you see, a person can only be a child molester while they are molesting children, so this question only applies to people currently molesting children, which can't be trusted.

Some may be able to be rehabilitated, but how do we know when we don't want to take a chance? This whole letting them out of jail but they must register with a public registry makes no sense to me. We obviously don't feel trustful of them so why are they out of jail in the first place?

They have a sickness that cannot ever be cured. They deserve to stop breathing my air.

Some might be able to be rehabilitated to the extent that they can be trusted in other areas of life so long as they stay away from children, but it would be wrong for the society to allow an experienced child molester to ever again be in the presence of children, unless perhaps heavily monitored or supervised. And who wants to put that much energy into the well-being of someone who's done that much wrong? It really is a complex question that can't easily be answered.

I'd have to say no for the majority of child molesters ... the rest of them would depend upon observation. After all, these kinds of individuals are master manipulators and skilled at deception ...

Molesters should never leave the depth of prison they should spend they life/remainder of their life in their cold dark cell, were we can forget about them, Each one should die for what they do.

Of all the reading and research I've done (a psych course I took a few years back)... it's not very clear about rehabilitation... it should be a case by case evaluation made. Nothing quite 'black and white' about the whole subject matter.



However, trusted? Not in my neighborhood or near my family and friends. Not today, not tomorrow, not anytime soon.

I believe it is possible for some people to change, but a child molester is a really touchy subject....and it would be hard to believe or trust anything they'd say or do no matter what life altering events they've been through

Not likely... All should have a chance to change, however should never be trusted with children ever again, they'll repeat their crimes for sure...
