A jewelry shop owner in Garden Grove, CA, open fired on five masked men attempting to rob her; at least one of the five thieves was armed.

“Our official recommendation is that business owners should not take the law upon themselves,” said Garden Grove Police Lt. Jeff Nightengale. “It is difficult because when you start shooting guns those rounds can end up anywhere. We would rather have the crime happen and have good witnesses rather than putting someone’s safety in jeopardy.”

ABCNEWS.GO.COM reports:
On Wednesday, five masked men poured into a jewelry store in a strip mall in Garden Grove, Calif., expecting to carry out a simple smash and grab robbery. But within less than a minute, they discovered they were no match for the store’s owner, a gray-haired woman whose finger seems quite comfortable on the trigger.

If she didn't hit any of them, then we need to donate for her to have shooting lessons!

My daughter, son in law and grandkids practice on a target simlar to this. The idea is to hit the bad guy without hitting the hostage.

She was fully within her rights, and IMO did the right thing.

IMO, owners of jewelry stores should keep a pistol with them at all times during business hours.

It I felt my safety was in jeopardy than I would. If they were just stealing my stuff and running away, I couldn't justify taking a mothers child away from her over stuff.

Oh believe me, I'm all for what this lady did. I'm just saying that if I saw a man stealing my stuff I wouldn't just start shooting. If it was obvious to me that he was just an unarmed thief, I wouldn't shoot.

Of course, the way those dirtbags were running she had about a 20% chance of hitting at least one arse with each shot.

If the robbers start fearing that any store owner might have a gun they will have to think twice about their life of crime. Armed good citizens are a deterrent to criminals and it looks like most people who voted here agree.

There was alot of blood but could not find where he went to in broad daylight . I was worried for months so I had a doctor who is a friend check hospitals in the are for GSWs but never found out anything .

A person's Life is FAR more valuable than some damned jewelry. FURthermore, insurance should cover the loss. With that said, I'd find some OTHER way to deter such a thing from happening again.

What do you think those thugs with guns might have done to the people in the shop had they not been armed. Many get killed so the the thief's can not be identified. Oh but I guess the life of the store owners are less important then the thugs?
