California is not alone on this one. There are at least 14 countries that have some sort of foie gras ban, mostly targeting its production. However, the difference is that the ban in California not only prohibits foie gras production but also bars shops and restaurants from selling it.On July 1, California will be bound by the most sweeping anti-foie gras statute in the world. Consumed by few, the pricey delicacy made from duck or goose’s liver is lusted after by chefs and diners for its rich, singular flavor and versatility on the plate for everything from hot dogs to ice cream.

I can see how someone so ignorant on a topic may not realize the difference.

You state: "Your debating style is as useful as a child repeating "did not, did not, did not, did not!""

Except in this case, I post the actual *FACTS*, while you scream: "did not, did not, did not, did not!"
    -You're welcome!

YAY the use of astriks again! Well done.

You have not stated a single fact but opinion. Give me the facts - then we'll talk.

Here are cockatiels being fed to make Foie Gras:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

(No, they are *NOT* really being fed to make Foie Gras. I wouldn't want you to start a crusade to "Stop Cockatiel Foie Gras Production!" just because you were shown a video of cockatiels being tube fed.)
  • Twinky Marvelo... 2012/07/08 21:00:16

DUH oh really ducks can be fed by tube?
Wow thank you for the patronisation.

I will now block you because if you can't be polite I'm not interested in speaking to pig-headed jerks who can't spell and feel the need to inappropriately use asteriks everywhere.

Love the stuff, but I make my own. I have friends that process their own home grown geese [humanely raised and processed]. The texture is different than traditional foi gras, where they force feed the birds, but I think the flavor is better.
I also make pate with chicken liver. Nomnomnom..
  • Twinky zebsmom 2012/07/02 13:26:49

Then (thankfully) you're not eating foie gras, rather goose liver/pate.

People need to start to realize how animals are treated, it is sickening. What makes me laugh the most are the people who say, Oh I love God, yet they continue to close their eyes to the suffering their "meat" goes through to fill their hypocritical bellies. Their actions, inaction, embarrass God.

    God does NOT condone abuse.

    abused farm animals

This is how God wants His animals to be treated:

Not to mention what they do to the poor animal to get it that way... it's disgusting and cruel.

The feeding process is the same as the one used to hand raise baby parrots and cocktails.
The *CLAIM* by the ignorant is "animal cruelty", when in reality there is *NO CRUELTY*.
PROOF: If cruelty were involve, the geese would try and *ESCAPE AND EVADE* those with the feeding tube, they would *NOT* swarm the feeders as they do.

The tube is not the cruel part, it's the over-feeding that's cruel.

Have you ever dealt with geese?
    No, I guess not.
"Being overfed" isn't an issue geese are known for.
If the geese had an issue with the amount or method, they wouldn't come up.
And they certainly wouldn't crowd the feeder.
Now *THINK*: If they were fed to rupture, as the liars claim they are, the fowl would die.
Buyers won't buy 3 or 4 birds at a time, ESPECIALLY *DEAD* or *DYING* birds, so each death is a total loss of profit.

Just because geese are too stupid to know what's happening to their bodies doesn't mean they don't suffer from the health effects and strain, while they're alive.
I think this should be legal only as long as you capture, feed & kill the goose yourself... then again, I think that should be the case for all meat. If you can actually do the dirty work, then fine, you deserve to eat it.

You state: "Just because geese are too stupid to know what's happening to their bodies doesn't mean they don't suffer from the health effects and strain, while they're alive."

You mean like human smokers, right?
So what are some of the health effects of the fattening?
And how long do *you think* the geese will actually *LIVE* with these health issues? (Pssst! Less than 6 months.)

You state: "I think this should be legal only as long as you capture, feed & kill the goose yourself... then again, I think that should be the case for all meat. If you can actually do the dirty work, then fine, you deserve to eat it."

    I like that idea myself!

Foie gras means fatty liver... it's achieved by shoving a tube down the animal's throat and force-feeding.

It's so sad, they shove a tube down the animal's throat and force feed it until its liver is pretty much ready to burst. Extreme animal cruelty for a food that's not even necessary.
  • BAMCIS Inquisi... 2012/07/02 03:52:14
    BAMCIS
well, one could argue that any singular food is not necessary, so your last sentence is kind of stupid

The only stupid thing here is your argument... it's necessary to eat food... it's not necessary to eat the liver of a force-fed animal...
  • BAMCIS Inquisi... 2012/07/02 04:10:55
    BAMCIS
please re-read what I wrote, then realize how dumb you are... It is not necessary to eat liver, correct. It is also not necessary to eat any other singular food... meaning it is not necessary to eat lettuce to live, it is not necessary to eat tomatoes, it is not necessary to eat soy beans. So once again, the last sentence in your first statement is stupid. It would be better if it was written "Extreme animal cruelty for a food is never ok". or something to that effect

I think you are overreacting to his extremely blunt statement. He is correct that you need not eat any one singular food.
I also think that he is getting to the point that banning a certain food will not fix the problem. Eventually the same cruel people will find something else to do unethically and thus the problem is not solved.
  • Inquisi... dekecds 2012/07/02 05:42:21
    Inquisitve Kat
That logic doesn't follow... banning the production of foie gras is highly unlikely to encourage the producers of such to find some other unethical endeavour in which to engage. What, do you suppose, they'll turn to?

Simply raising the same geese and abusing them just as cruelly....
Have you ever seen Meet Your Meat? There was, at one time, an overwhelming trend of cruelty in the meat industry. Not to say that there still isn't a lot going on, but regulation has hampered much of it. The solution was not a ban on eating meat, but stiffer penalties for unethical practices and more frequent inspection of farms.
  • Inquisi... dekecds 2012/07/02 06:05:31
    Inquisitve Kat
True, but overfeeding an animal regardless of how it's done, is cruel.
