California is not alone on this one. There are at least 14 countries that have some sort of foie gras ban, mostly targeting its production. However, the difference is that the ban in California not only prohibits foie gras production but also bars shops and restaurants from selling it.On July 1, California will be bound by the most sweeping anti-foie gras statute in the world. Consumed by few, the pricey delicacy made from duck or goose’s liver is lusted after by chefs and diners for its rich, singular flavor and versatility on the plate for everything from hot dogs to ice cream.

if you knew what they did to those birds you would hopefully understand...a friend of mine went to school to become a chef and for whatever reason that I do not want to know, they have to nail the bird's feet down.

Are you aware that the geese are force feed (while being held down ) a diet so unhealthy that their livers enlarge trying to fight off the alimentary assault until they are almost at the point of liver failure, then they are butchered to make the "paste of fat liver" that people seem to enjoy so much? The process is a bit too brutal for my taste.

I do not eat any type of liver, but I do eat cows, chickens, pigs, deer, snake, fish, turkeys, and a host of other meats. They are all live animals fattened up for food. How many of you people who clicked that NO button eat any of the meats I listed?? If you do, then pot, meet your kettle.

I'm a California native and I have never heard of this stuff being available to eat. I ate duck once and it was a very greasy meat. I am glad they are banning this procedure. I don't think any animal should be tortured, before it becomes a meal.

I like it. The liver of the duck or goose is so mellow, and so delicious. Chicken livers can be bitter, and needs a lot of spicing.

Foie gras is prepped by force feeding ducks in tight quaterrs with very little if any room to move. Thereby making the birds literal sitting ducks to be force fed until physically ill with most likely gastrointestinal complaints. One could claim killing any animal for its meat is cruel but the way this food is prepped to me is especially cruel. source ehow.com

When you stop eating animals that were slaughtered in marauding practices. It's one thing to want freedom, but proposing your freedoms come over an animal's welfare is hypocritical and entitled.

I support faux grass. Real grass wastes too much water and you have to cut it. ; )

Maybe that the pictured grass is some Festuca species, but it looks very artificial. Yet, I think that Daring was making a good joke about the confusions between "gras" (fat) and "grass", as faux gras (false, unnatural fat) or foie gras (fat liver) is an artificially enhanced liver of geese or ducks, a pathology obtained with forced feeding, a torture for the birds. Originally, it was a French dish, although delicious, but not really good for health.

your question is ambiguous and ill-formed like so many here.

I won't miss it, I grow my own. No-one is going to get on my land to see me feeding my birds
