California is not alone on this one. There are at least 14 countries that have some sort of foie gras ban, mostly targeting its production. However, the difference is that the ban in California not only prohibits foie gras production but also bars shops and restaurants from selling it.On July 1, California will be bound by the most sweeping anti-foie gras statute in the world. Consumed by few, the pricey delicacy made from duck or goose’s liver is lusted after by chefs and diners for its rich, singular flavor and versatility on the plate for everything from hot dogs to ice cream.

Spoken like the ignoramous you are. Do you know anything about how foie gras is produced?

Spoken like a typical Ca PC jackass who starts with insults because it's all you have. I know how it's produced what I don't like is the food police, you can choose to eat or not.

Insults is not all I have. It was in reference to your ruthless, nonchalant and non caring attitude for these helpless creatures.

I think someone should torture you and eat you

Goose liver pate and it comes from geese that are force fed lots of food which makes their liver grow very large. It's wonderful and tasty.

However, I DO NOT think it should be banned for the people that DO like it... the NANNY state needs to get out of my kitchen!

It's not about the nanny state in your kitchen, or about what people like. It's to do with the abuse involved in its production. The Geese are forcefed high fat foods to enlarge the liver. They are force fed until they can no longer walk. It's a very cruel and sadistic way of producing something that very few people eat. There is no need for it to happen in modern times it's truly appalling. They just aren't treat even mildly humanely unlike other animals bred for slaughter.

If it was about cruelty to animals they would address the farmers. Telling people what they may eat or not is nannyism plain and simple.

Wrong. You need to ban it at both ends. Stop trying to be so sensationalist. The fact is the way this is created is wrong. It needs to be banned from being made, as well as being sold.

Gee, looks like you need a nanny, otherwise you'll eat till pigs fly and don't have the ability to feel full. It is not about people who like it or not, it's about animal rights issues and the disgusting animal abuse that ensues in order to create the product.

I personally would not like to try liver from any creature (knowing what it is and its function in the body makes my stomach turn to think of eating it!!) but I feel as long as it's not an animal that is threatened or endangered, and people are willing to eat its other meats as well as the liver (so food isn't wasted) I think it's wrong for any state to ban it.

I am not a big liver fan.
We will soon come to the end of keeping animals in cages. Meats made by cell divisions will become a cheaper replacement. And Soy Bean protein can already be made to imitate meat. Once the price comes down, consumers will pick it over the real thing like they do processed cheese...then caged birds will lessen.

Killing animals for food is an unpleasant aspect of life. While some growing and slaughter methods seem more humane than others, there is no clean and easy way to kill an animal. Nature itself is extremely violent and uncaring. In modern society we have been isolated from many of the harsher facets of survival. I didn’t like watching the video showing how these animals are raised but I also wouldn’t like to see the methods used to raise and kill chickens, cows, pigs or any other living thing. Processing animals for food is an ugly, for profit business that the vast majority of people in the world benefit from. The animals are raised and butchered using the most cost effect methods which helps keep prices more affordable. I can barely keep food on the table as it is and prices would sore even higher if these methods weren’t used.

Look, I don’t eat this stuff at all. I have never even heard of it before and I feel sorry for the ducks. However, this is how life works. One living thing must die for another to live. Maybe I am wrong but this is the way I see it.

Point vs Point: Man was built to eat all things. The problem occurs when you have rulers trying to regulate and control all you eat or do.. (Thanx Michelle)
When Central Committee decides the month and hour you can have sex with your wife or husband then you will have some understanding.

I agree wholeheartedly with your point. I despise government interference with any citizen’s personal choices. The rights and freedoms of the American public have already been damaged by Washington and are facing continued attacks in the coming years.

In answering this particular question my focus centered solely on the necessary but unfortunate realities of bringing meat products to the marketplace.

    Thanks for your comment.

I have had it and it is very rich. I was buying some beef shanks at Bristol Farms and the lady next to me was buying something that was 84 dollars a pound. I was surprised so I asked what cost 84.00 dollars a pound? Saffron and Truffles cost more than that. She said Foie Gras. I think the way it is made is a crime. It is cruelty to an animal and I don't care if it is gone. I think making it illegal to sell will slow that down but only the rich can afford it. They always find a way to decadent and just plain rude. You can have pate and it serves the same purpose. It tastes just as good or just as bad.
