California is not alone on this one. There are at least 14 countries that have some sort of foie gras ban, mostly targeting its production. However, the difference is that the ban in California not only prohibits foie gras production but also bars shops and restaurants from selling it.

On July 1, California will be bound by the most sweeping anti-foie gras statute in the world. Consumed by few, the pricey delicacy made from duck or goose’s liver is lusted after by chefs and diners for its rich, singular flavor and versatility on the plate for everything from hot dogs to ice cream.

What you don't seem to understand is that this leads to nothing. It's a ban on something that needs to be banned. Sometimes the government needs to step in to stop people thinking it's ok to do this kind of thing. Yes people will still do it, well we punish those people. Weed is illegal, but the difference is... that's not harming anyone.
Although why you are getting annoyed about this I don't know. Just because I disagree with you, you've gotten aggressive?
But what me being from the UK has to do with any of this. Typical anti-anywhere-but-the-US response. When will Americans grow up :(
If any man thinks he knows anything, he knows nothing as yet he should know it.
However, since many animals are abused to bring things we take for granted to our table like sausage, eggs, steak, hamburgers, Chicken, Chicken Marsala, spaghetti and meatballs, etc, we should ban everyone from eating all animals. Most of them are abused before you see the finished product. Vegetarians have been saying this for millenia.
If you don't believe me, come visit me, and I'll take you around the corner to the dairy farms, where the feces often smells like diarrhea, not just cow feces. Cows are put in small quarters with hardly room to walk around, and they are forced to walk around and lay in their own feces. They're fed god knows what. All they should be eating is grass. And they shouldn't be pumped up with drugs.
This post raises questions that no one bothered to bring up. 1. Why would you want to eat another animals's liver? Do people know what the function of the liver is? 2. Why would you want to eat force diseased geese?
And, hmm, I've become pescetarian, so Foie Gras is off my radar.
