Should Government Have A Say In What You Eat Or Drink? CA Removed Soda beverages From Public Schools. It Wants To Take This One Step Further.

Coke and Pepsi are making some changes to their formula to avoid having their cans slapped with a cancer warning label. The companies directed their suppliers to reduce the level of the chemical 4-methylimidazole, which is a component of the caramel coloring and can be found in trace amounts in the soda. The change comes following a California law that demands drinks with a certain level of carcinogens display a warning, and while scientists say there are no immediate health concerns associated with the product (despite a few Twitter users freaking out), the two companies are changing the way they make their coloring to comply. Fortunately, the drinks will still be packed with all the sugar and empty calories you can handle.

These Cola makers must have known this for sometime,why do they wait for a public outcry before changing their formula ?The government should make the consumer aware of what he is buying if it carries a health threat.

The warning label should read, if you are a lab rat and you ingest 500 times what you could get in a year of drinking pop, you MAY get cancer....

Depends on the reliability of the research. Seems like "research papers" have had folks running back and forth with dubious research...they have said coffee, wine, tea ,(you name it !)...are going to kill us all...or make us all healthier. Same crap went on with eggs... based on studies funded by cereal companies.
How about that stupid food pyramid ?

I avoid feeding anything laced with colorings, chemicals, and preservatives for my kids...and I grow organic.

BTW...They did try clear cola years back but they flopped...but now folks may be more interested in it.

You nailed it. One research group says it's bad another says it's not.

Eggs are a good example. For decades they were bad for you. Now they are healthy. It's magic.

if they dont put it on there and people develop cancer, there will be lawsuits left and right because they werent told, and if they are told, people get mad at "government interference"; people need to make up their minds...you want help / intervention / assistance from the government or not. Picking and choosing when you want it, putting them down for lack of action and then putting them down when they act? C'mon..get real.

Just about everything we eat & drink are bad for us if we research deep enough.

Sometimes politics enters in to make a statement.

If consumers want to polute & contaminate themselves, let them. Nobody is holding a gun to their heads & force feeding them to eat drink or smoke. It's their choice.

I agree--this is nothing more than a disclaimer, the same thing cigarette makers did years ago; it doesnt affect our choices.

This is only the begining of a dangerous trend. Government will take full control of what we eat, drink, buy or consume.

First it was Government Motors forcing Chevy Volts down our throats. What next...government cola.
