Bye Bye Unemployment Benefits?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/05/12 02:22:32

More than 200,000 long-term jobless Americans will lose their unemployment checks this week, when eight states roll off the federal extended benefits program.

Nearly half of them live in California, and the rest reside in Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, Colorado, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Texas.

The federal extended benefits program has provided the jobless with up to 20 weeks of unemployment checks after they’ve run through their state and their federal emergency benefits, which together last up to 79 weeks.

But the extended benefits program is expiring throughout the country as the economy improves.

Yeah, this is bad but I think we all knew that the extensions would have to end at some point. I just hope these people can get some kind of job to keep them going.

Considering that appears our local factories are getting ready for another round of lay offs here is what I think will happen. The people who are layed off now will get the jobs of those who will be layed off soon making it appear that the economy has improved and jobs have been created.

The weight problem is going to be hard to handle when I retire. I stayed pretty thin most of my life but I will have to deal with the fact that all that steel lifting muscle developed over decades is going to want to turn to instant Jello. I've met other women who retired from my trade and they all say they wish they had kept lifting weights to counter that. Unfortunately they said it's hard to do that.

My favorite exercise is gardening, walking the dogs and dancing. I really can't stand gyms. I do have some rather weighty swords I use to work out and stay limber. I have to do that outside for safetys sake. I bet the neighbors think I'm a first class loon.

You know what really frys me? I owned science fiction from Edgar Rice Burrows 1st editions and just about everything written since then but the pages got so fragile they started to crumble at the lightest touch. Now my collection has been winnowed down a lot. My original McCaffries have been replaced several times. I am still trying to replace my Asimove. My problem is that I don't just own them, I read them again and again and again.

Have faith, Beccy. Rick did kill the movie industry which really bummed me out...I have movie critters. Rick himself is OK but he has a stupid legislature to deal with. Hubby is a corrections officer and since that's a huge part of the budget they;re beating up on those guys I am a county Farm Bureau board member and believe me there is a lot of grass roots efforts on all of our behalf. It's going to be bad until we get on track as a country. If you care about any issue, contact me offline and I'll make sure your voice is heard to the right people.
