Brad Pitt isn't known for holding back on his point of view. And his latest diatribe about religion is sure to offend some people.

At the premiere of his new film, "The Tree of Life," at the Cannes Film Festival, in which he plays a 1950s churchgoer, Pitt told reporters he didn't enjoy his religious upbringing.

"I got brought up being told things were God's way, and when things didn't work out it was called God's plan. I've got my issues with it. Don't get me started. I found it very stifling," the 47-year-old said.

Pitt famously has six kids with his partner, Angelina Jolie: Maddox, 9, Pax, 7, Zahara, 6, Shiloh, 4, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 2.

So we gather they don't say "Grace" around the dinner table?

No, religion teaches hate and intolerance. Contrary to what many Christians think, you can be moral without religion.

What is the other option? Moral Relativism? Look where we are today directly because fewer and fewer children are getting a religious upbringing.

It's based on what's considered good and a foundation, to how we are to treat one another. However, a follower must be vigilant, for there are those who will bend the basic idea of the words of any religion, for a personal gain. If one can see through this, there is much to be gained for them and everyone around them.

I do not consider Mr Pitt to be a model of personal character I would want anyone to emulate. So his upbringing was "stifling". So what? An upbringing without limits or restrictions results in anti-social selfish brats from my observations.

I personally know Jesus, we have a real relationship and He works in my life every moment, of every of every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day, of every week, of every year in my life, sorry that you don't understand what that is HH, hey maybe one day, read Lee Strobel's story or the Damascus road experience of Saul in the Bible.

Dave, there's no arguing with fools like holy heretic... he only tries to bring people down to his lowly level. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of GOD. Obviously, he has no wisdom.

I say "yes", but I must qualify the response.

I was permitted to experience a variety of religious teachings growing up thanks to my mother. She believed that to truly understand god you had to understand and learn about all religions. So I understand where Brad Pitt is coming from in his statement to reporters. Why, because I've heard these same words spoken by various priest, pastors, and lay people, When hurricane Kitrina hit New Orleans I heard said, God's will or it's Gods judgement against the people of the city for allowing casinos, gambling, prostitution, corruption, and yes because of gays.

The Bible which I look upon as a guide for living written by man for men, not written by God as many would have us believe contains much. Unfortunately, each religion claims that their Bible, written by their God teaches a view specific to their religion. I could go on but I won't. Suffice to say, children need to know "religion", just not a narrow minded view of religion.

Religion is stifling but God's Word sets you free. Why was Jesus always against the religious leaders of His time? Religion enslaves you. God's wants us to have a relationship with Him.

if you wanna teach your children not to think rationally they sure if you don't want your children to grow to there full potential then go right ahead... Religion is the worst thing to every happen to this world.. it stops children from thinking it gives them false hope and make them think there horrible in side and they need to be fixed which is a lie... Religion stops they from asking question and seeking "Real" answers. Religion is a virus... Tomorrow May 21 2011 So Christian believe were all gonna die because judgment day is coming Religion dose nothing but spread Ignorance and fear.. Those that side yes are backwards people that cant see what really matter in this world.. Religion is a lazy crap attempt to answer something that you don't understand and instead of going out and trying to learn something real they sit on there lazy butt and say oh i don't understand it so God did it... Religion is full of lazy craps holes that rather have someone else fix on the problem then getting off there butts to fix the issue in the world around us.. RELIGION IS ABOMINATION

red you have no clue of who Christ is obviously. You surely need praying for. not only have you been fed lies by whatever "religion" you speak of, but you don't know the Bible, which is God's words. If i am right and i live for my Christ, than i shall see heaven, Christ and all it's splendor. But you better pray that i am wrong. For if i am right as i know i will be, your unbelief and rejection of not only the word of God, but of Christ his son, leaves you to the pit of hell of torment after death. God loves you and doesn't want you to go there, but everyone has free will to choose. I pray that you choose wisely.

It all depends on how it's done. Like my and sister and her husband she is christian and he is muslim. Neither one is pushing their religion on theirs kids, They are leaving it up to the kids want they to or not believe in.

If it discourages kids from expanding their minds, making their own decisions, and feel comfortable with who they are it can be a bad thing. It's not healthy to be surrounded by a bunch of judgemental and gossipy finger pointers. On the other hand, if it's just for a social outlet for the soul purpose of gaining inner peace and fellowship it can be rewarding. I suppose it depends on the religion. Anything that's forced can have negative consequences.
