Blah

When I listen to the news all I hear is blah blah blah.
Noises and sounds that emit nothing but annoyance instead of efficient
information.

Wow! Breaking news today Lindsey Lohan went to jail and what will
this do to her career? Blah; not news, but people gluttony to joyously watch a
girl go down the wrong path and burn.

It’s weird how many people get pleasure
in other people’s pain and self-demise. No enthusiasm in saving our troops, or
reducing our national debt. No determination in making better school systems, or dealing with the 16 million homeless children in our country but happiness out of others misery.

For me the demise of war, hunger, and the
end of many other crippling problems we have would bring me to happiness.
Watching men and women drown themselves with drugs doesn’t.

So the next time
you say, Lindsey, Britney or whatever other star that is starting to falter
deserve what they get, think about your kid. Let us talk about the drug problem
of America. The addiction of watching people self-hurt and self-destruct. I just
hope that we can end our superficial ways before we drown ourselves in them.

    It doesn't rhyme! :)

I could care less about celebrities actions over the world's everyday "happenings". Don't get me wrong! I, for one, don't "hate" Lindsay Lohan or others "like" her. I know that as humans, we are all capable of "things" in our lives that may or may not be approved of by everyone.

I'm not sure what the two choices actually refer to. I mean I agree with your point of view about the banal nature of mainstream news, especially entertainment news, but my advise to you is this: It's just a phase you will outgrow if you consistently employ common sense and critical thinking. Take nothing for granted and keep and open mind.

I like your post and I truly agree. It's usually just nonsense mixed in with something sickening, for example, one poor soul getting shot in the head.

Great post, and keep up the great work. :)

I agree with your post! TV is an awful distraction. People get hurt and die everyday, without the bad there would be no good... It's all about balancing life and learning your lessons. Its also annoying/strange how we all still complain about all these things happening without doing anything about them. Why worry about stuff you're not even involved in..

    My sentiments exactly.

    Here's another:

"When All the Laughter Dies in Sorrow"

When all the laughter dies in sorrow
And the tears have risen to a flood
When all the wars have found a cause
    In human wisdom and blood
Do you think they'll cry in sadness
Do you think the eye will blink
Do you think they'll curse the madness
Do you think they'll even think

When all the great galactic systems
Sigh to a frozen halt in space
Do you think there will be some remnant
Of beauty in the human race
Do you think there will be a vestige
Or a sniffle or a cosmic tear
Do you think a greater thinking thing
Will give a damn that man was here

I agree that today's news for the most part is sensationalized. I miss Edward R Morrow, Walter Kronkite, Huntley & Brinkley.....a time when all the news that was relevant was reported. The Newsroom may be a bit depressing sometimes but it also let's us see what REAL NEWS should sound like. Others currently reporting the news could get a lesson if they bothered to watch!!!!

    That ain't a poem.
    This is:

Who rides there so late through the night dark and drear?
    The father it is, with his infant so dear;
He holdeth the boy tightly clasp'd in his arm,
He holdeth him safely, he keepeth him warm.

"My son, wherefore seek'st thou thy face thus to hide?"
"Look, father, the Alder King is close by our side!
Dost see not the Alder King, with crown and with tail?"
"My son, 'tis the mist rising over the plain."

"Oh, come, thou dear infant! oh come thou with me!
    For many a game I will play there with thee;
On my beach, lovely flowers their blossoms unfold,
My mother shall grace thee with garments of gold."

"My father, my father, and dost thou not hear
The words that the Alder King now breathes in mine ear?"
    "Be calm, dearest child, thy fancy deceives;
the wind is sighing through withering leaves."

"Wilt go, then, dear infant, wilt go with me there?
My daughters shall tend thee with sisterly care
My daughters by night on the dance floor you lead,
They'll cradle and rock thee, and sing thee to sleep."

"My father, my father, and dost thou not see,
How the Alder King is showing his daughters to me?"
"My darling, my darling, I see it aright,
'Tis the aged grey willows deceiving thy sight."

"I love thee, I'm charm'd by thy beauty, dear boy!

"My father, my father, he seizes me fast,
For sorely the Alder King has hurt me at last."

The father now gallops, with terror half wild,
    He holds in his arms the shuddering child;
He reaches his farmstead with toil and dread, –
The child in his arms lies motionless, dead.

You have chosen one of the greatest ballads, the Alder King of Goethe (I suppose that you like German literature and that you know a lot about it).
Maybe that the reminder is not a ballad, but it is appealing to our conscience, to our mentality.

"It’s weird how many people get pleasure
in other people’s pain and self-demise." That pretty much summed it up. The media only put out what gets ratings. Hopefully one day real news will make a comeback.

    you've summed up nicely ..
    the superficiality of the media
and those who feed from the hype ..
the sad way there's little care about REALITY ..
but unreal .. is 'celebrated' ..

YES .. we as parents should be involved ..
showing our CHILDREN a better way ..
that LIFE .. Sober, Clean .. aware ..
is FAR BETTER than under the influence of anything ...
