Big Brother just got scarier: Japanese CCTV camera can scan 36 million faces per second?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/03/25 10:47:12

UK Daily Mail

A new camera technology from Hitachi Hokusai Electric can scan days of camera footage instantly, and find any face which has EVER walked past it.

Its makers boast that it can scan 36 million faces per second.

The technology raises the spectre of governments – or other organisations – being able to ‘find’ anyone instantly simply using a passport photo or a Facebook profile.

The ‘trick’ is that the camera ‘processes’ faces as it records, so that all faces which pass in front of it are recorded and stored instantly.

Faces are stored as a searchable ‘biometric’ record,

scary stuff. I love technology and it is a fine line of convenience versus privacy. There are times I want to get rid of my Facebook account but it is a nice tool to communicate with family and friends. I use gmail with apprehensions. I try to lock things down to keep some semblance of privacy but is sure is not easy !

Between here, facebook, and gmail, you basically have no privacy. This is a decision we each have to make for ourselves, of course. SH might not be so bad.

Google and facebook are unofficial arms of Big Brother's network. Don't have any illusions about them. The entire reason for their existence these days is making sure that no one has any secrets.

there are things you can do to curtail what they see. all the major browsers have add-ons that deal with things like cookies, flash cookies, and ad sites that track your behavior. it's too bad but scroogle.org was banned by Google. you can also sign up for a VPN account.

this summer many ISPs have agreed with the RIAA to police us. what a joke. for every action they take we can counter back.

I've read articles about ways to bypass China's "Great Firewall." Censoring the internet just will not work. The censors don't have enough clue about the tech to actually do the censoring.

The freenet project is worth looking into. Good luck.

So I guess the government is going to line up 36 million people at a time to take a one second picture. WOW! they probably already have most of our pictures on file already! Another waste of taxpayers money. But you have to ask? Why do they need this? Inquiry minds need to know? Some one answer the question, thanks!

They can do that here in the US, but maybe just not 36 million per second but I'm sure it can do that many in a minute.
