Beyonce Names Baby Girl Blue Ivy Carter: Super Cute or Annoyingly Hollywood?

After what seemed like a never-ending pregnancy fashion show, Beyonce gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday. But wait, there's even bigger news: the baby's name is Blue Ivy Carter.

beyonce

"Welcome to the world, Blue," Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z's good friend Gwyneth Paltrow tweeted on Sunday. "We love you already." The actress also responded to a "confused" fan who asked if the little girl's name is "Ivy Blue or Blue Ivy," clarifying, "It's Blue Ivy!"

Another famous friend, Rihanna, tweeted on Saturday, "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih." And Auntie Solange tweeted on Sunday that Blue Ivy is "the most beautiful girl in the world."

According to "Good Morning America," the superstar couple chose "Ivy" because of the meaning of the number "4" or "IV" -- Beyonce and Jay-Z were born on Sept. 4 and Dec. 4, respectively; they were married on April 4, 2008; and Beyonce's latest album is called "4." They also reportedly have matching "IV" tattoos on their wedding fingers.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z has three albums with the word "blue" in their titles: "The Blueprint" was released in 2001; "The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse" was released in 2002; and "The Blueprint 3" came out in 2009.

Beyonce and Jay-Z reportedly rented out the fourth floor of New York City's Lenox Hill hospital for $1.3 million (small change for these two). Wondering how B and baby are doing? The Houston Chronicle reported that "baby and mom are doing just fine." GMA reports that the 30-year-old singer gave birth via C-section. So what do you think of the name?

I've lost all respect I had for this woman after I read this...

"A man was allegedly stopped from visiting his premature babies by Beyonce and Jay-Z's bodyguards in Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, this weekend.

Beyonce had reportedly hired out and redecorated a wing at the hospital at the cost of $1.3 million (£843,000) in order to give birth to her first born child, Blue Ivy Carter, in peace, but her allegedly heavy-handed security guards apparently repeatedly stopped Neil Coulon from visiting his newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit.

NY Daily reports that Coulon's relatives were also thrown out of a waiting room by Beyonce's private security staff.

Coulon, whose wife delivered premature twins in the hospital last week, said of the security guards: "Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) and it happened once on Friday — just because they wanted to use the hallway... They should have been more strategic about it. These are children with problems in intensive care and you're just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology."

Can someone tell me what was up with that footage of her disappearing baby bump. I saw a very slowed down version of the video and that bump completely disappeared when she bent over to sit down. It looked like it had folder over on itself...like maybe there was a foam liner in her dress.

Okay, it's definitely Hollywood, too. But it's so much better than lots of names. Start with Frank Zappa's Moon Unit. And then there are these fashionable names that everybody uses so the point that I want to roll my eyes when I hear them. And think of all those made up ones that are incredibly stupid. My son's friend actually picked a name for a baby girl that was inadvertently obscene. I can't repeat it here. But it was .... sooooo bad.

Blue Ivy. Nothing wrong with that name at all. I have a friend named Ivy. And when Sonny and Cher named their baby boy Elijah Blue, I thought that was very, very cool.

Welcome to the world, Blue Ivy. :-)

I would have preferred "Ivy Blue" over Blue Ivy. At least Ivy is a name as well as a plant. Blue is usually a name reserved for dogs, (Ol' Blue) and hillbillys. "Blue man Group" is hardly an inspiration for a girl's name. Blue Mood? Got the blues? (Even Cowgirls Get the Blues is a reference to sexual frustration) Whatever. I think this is not a good cupcake.

shame it's about what they prefer not what you prefer... and blue? instead of looking for negative think for example, sky blue, ocean blue, calming blue. maybe this baby is bringing them peace. maybe the blueprint reference is a put-on for the media... who knows!

These people are so deprived. LOL They have their bodies on every magazine, plant their faces in front of cameras at those inane award shows, spout their political views on their own soapboxes but it still isn't enough. To continue to keep their names in the news they insist on giving their innocent child names that will make conversation. I'm sick of the majority of these fools.

Oh goodness, very well said! I just about had it with them too! The stupid fans they have make them think their beyond anything realistic and profound. Poor children, than they divorce and pay no attention to their offspring, tha they grow up to be alcoholics and drug addicts and they don't know why!! Such a shame and deprivation. Ooooohhh...and they even name PRESIDENTS this days! Kills me.

I feel sorry for this child already! I can hear the taunts by the other kids but I'm sure she's not going to care, she'll probably have a super ego just like her parents! Why do these individuals feel they have the right to keep other parents away from thier sick babies?? I have no respect for people who are like these two, who just because they have $$ to throw around, do it without care to everyone else! DId she give birth to a "holy child', they should have just delivered at home-they had the $ to convert thier home into a hospital I'm sure, then they wouldn't have inconvienced anyone.

Instead of spending x amt of $ redoing the wing-she could have donated that to the hospital nicu in graditude of delivering a healthy baby, so that other babys that are born with issues would be able to recieve the best care. They are so selfish, like so many Hollywood stars!!

Blue? Okay that's a little weird. Ivy? That's awesome! Blue Ivy Carter? As a whole it works. It's a beautiful although unusual name. Are Hollywood celebrities annoying? Some are. I certainly don't like the story about how B and JZ's bodyguards kept some people from visiting their babies in the NICU. As a mother that type of selfishness irritates me! Everyone should be able to see thier babies in the hospital especiallly after thier born and the photogs should respect celebs privacy during such a special time. This situation is soooo HW but congrats to Beyonce (hope you enjoy motherhood as I have) and Jay-Z on becoming parents!
