Beyonce Names Baby Girl Blue Ivy Carter: Super Cute or Annoyingly Hollywood?

After what seemed like a never-ending pregnancy fashion show, Beyonce gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday. But wait, there's even bigger news: the baby's name is Blue Ivy Carter.

beyonce

"Welcome to the world, Blue," Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z's good friend Gwyneth Paltrow tweeted on Sunday. "We love you already." The actress also responded to a "confused" fan who asked if the little girl's name is "Ivy Blue or Blue Ivy," clarifying, "It's Blue Ivy!"

Another famous friend, Rihanna, tweeted on Saturday, "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih." And Auntie Solange tweeted on Sunday that Blue Ivy is "the most beautiful girl in the world."

According to "Good Morning America," the superstar couple chose "Ivy" because of the meaning of the number "4" or "IV" -- Beyonce and Jay-Z were born on Sept. 4 and Dec. 4, respectively; they were married on April 4, 2008; and Beyonce's latest album is called "4." They also reportedly have matching "IV" tattoos on their wedding fingers.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z has three albums with the word "blue" in their titles: "The Blueprint" was released in 2001; "The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse" was released in 2002; and "The Blueprint 3" came out in 2009.

Beyonce and Jay-Z reportedly rented out the fourth floor of New York City's Lenox Hill hospital for $1.3 million (small change for these two). Wondering how B and baby are doing? The Houston Chronicle reported that "baby and mom are doing just fine." GMA reports that the 30-year-old singer gave birth via C-section. So what do you think of the name?

I've lost all respect I had for this woman after I read this...

"A man was allegedly stopped from visiting his premature babies by Beyonce and Jay-Z's bodyguards in Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, this weekend.

Beyonce had reportedly hired out and redecorated a wing at the hospital at the cost of $1.3 million (£843,000) in order to give birth to her first born child, Blue Ivy Carter, in peace, but her allegedly heavy-handed security guards apparently repeatedly stopped Neil Coulon from visiting his newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit.

NY Daily reports that Coulon's relatives were also thrown out of a waiting room by Beyonce's private security staff.

Coulon, whose wife delivered premature twins in the hospital last week, said of the security guards: "Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) and it happened once on Friday — just because they wanted to use the hallway... They should have been more strategic about it. These are children with problems in intensive care and you're just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology."

You're right but people are just answering a question & giving an opinion in the same 'free country' 'Blue Ivy' was born in. Freedom for all I'd say!

I forgot to mention...Cher & Greg Allman already beat them to it. Their son - Elijah Blue Allman, born in 1976, is a muscian & very popular in the club scene in Cali. So, it's not so unique after all. Cannot stand B & JZ. They are a disgrace. They think being black, famous & rich makes them the rulers of the universe. It just makes them arrogant. Didn't she just announce her pregnancy a couple of months ago? *Blech*

Well hopefully one good thing, no one else will name their daughter "Blue Ivy". It definitely draws attention to the child, but what if she doesn't want to have attention on her when she's grown. JMO. At least it's unique.

Definitely annoying name. Almost as annoying as keeping other parents away from their seriously ill children and making hospital visitors stay in the rooms as the "great & mighty" pass by. Beyonce & Jay-Z have plummeted in my estimation. I'm sure their baby would be blue if she knew how her parents treated others.

The mother can name a child what she wants! But think about the child so many kids today goes by their middle name cause they don't like their name. Smh, I don't like it but I do like Ivy but drop the Blue! But the child is going to have so much money she can change it! lol

Be glad when this blows over. Getting tired of the headlines. Only because they are celebrities they get this attention. If they were not exposed to the celebrity life they are exposed too this child would have had most likely a more common name.

A mother can name her child any name the choose. That's a mother's choice. I thought she might have spelled Blue different. Like Bleu in reference to Cordon Bleu Culinary.

Spelling the name "Bleu" would imply that somebody wants to serve the baby for dinner.

Stupidity carried to an extreme, don't they realize the potential problems with giving children weird first names? Strange names become the bullies delight once the kids get in school.

has a professional tone to it that is not half as silly as a lot of the other bizarre Hollywood names. All in all, good choice !

    Blue Carter.

    First day of school, anyone?

My name is Angelika (un-GAY-lee-kuh) & I hated the first day of school because NO ONE who isn't German can pronounce it. Onguleeka, Angelica, Can we call you Angie or Gail?

At least Blue is a word we all know, but unless she's in a school with other stupidly named children, it's going to SUCK.

    BEE-Yons should have remembered that.
