Beyonce Names Baby Girl Blue Ivy Carter: Super Cute or Annoyingly Hollywood?

After what seemed like a never-ending pregnancy fashion show, Beyonce gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday. But wait, there's even bigger news: the baby's name is Blue Ivy Carter.

"Welcome to the world, Blue," Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z's good friend Gwyneth Paltrow tweeted on Sunday. "We love you already." The actress also responded to a "confused" fan who asked if the little girl's name is "Ivy Blue or Blue Ivy," clarifying, "It's Blue Ivy!"

Another famous friend, Rihanna, tweeted on Saturday, "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih." And Auntie Solange tweeted on Sunday that Blue Ivy is "the most beautiful girl in the world."

According to "Good Morning America," the superstar couple chose "Ivy" because of the meaning of the number "4" or "IV" -- Beyonce and Jay-Z were born on Sept. 4 and Dec. 4, respectively; they were married on April 4, 2008; and Beyonce's latest album is called "4." They also reportedly have matching "IV" tattoos on their wedding fingers.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z has three albums with the word "blue" in their titles: "The Blueprint" was released in 2001; "The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse" was released in 2002; and "The Blueprint 3" came out in 2009.

Beyonce and Jay-Z reportedly rented out the fourth floor of New York City's Lenox Hill hospital for $1.3 million (small change for these two). Wondering how B and baby are doing? The Houston Chronicle reported that "baby and mom are doing just fine." GMA reports that the 30-year-old singer gave birth via C-section. So what do you think of the name?

    Annoyingly Hollywood

I've lost all respect I had for this woman after I read this...

"A man was allegedly stopped from visiting his premature babies by Beyonce and Jay-Z's bodyguards in Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, this weekend.

Beyonce had reportedly hired out and redecorated a wing at the hospital at the cost of $1.3 million (£843,000) in order to give birth to her first born child, Blue Ivy Carter, in peace, but her allegedly heavy-handed security guards apparently repeatedly stopped Neil Coulon from visiting his newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit.

NY Daily reports that Coulon's relatives were also thrown out of a waiting room by Beyonce's private security staff.

Coulon, whose wife delivered premature twins in the hospital last week, said of the security guards: "Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) and it happened once on Friday — just because they wanted to use the hallway... They should have been more strategic about it. These are children with problems in intensive care and you're just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology."

David Bowie named his son Zowie Bowie when he came along in the seventies - However, When he grew up he officially changed it to JOE!! Blue Ivy will no doubt do the same - Though I must confess, heard worse!

Poor kid I feel sorry for her having such a moron for a mother who would actually subject her child to a life of ridicule. On the upside, I suppose she is fortunate that she wasn't named 'Blanket' or 'Blue Blanket' hahaha

Ridicule? Over a name? You would ridicule a CHILD over a name? Perhaps it's a cultural thing.

I just hope I'm still alive when all these children with names like Scout and Apple legally have them changed to Jane or Mary, then storm into Beverly Hills with torches and burn their parents mansions to the ground. As for her redecorating the hospital floor and her body guards harassing people? It makes her look like Diana Ross wanna be. THAT woman knew how to act like an over indulged, diva-bitch with style! Beyonce has years to go before she reaches that peak.

I guess those in Hollywood are so warped that they don't know how to give their children a decent normal name. I feel sorry for those children that have weird names. Maybe when they are older they can change their names.

  • MzFam3 ehsehsehs 2012/01/24 18:59:08
Haha you're so clever! Not really! They both came from America and if you're talking about their ancestors that would be Africa which is not a black country its an African country.

this is the kind of thing you just don't get, when you have famous parent(s)..you ever notice how many famous parent(s) seemingly..."ALWAYS" try to give their new babies a either weird or strange name.....isn't it obvious that the child will grow up famous anyway(in most cases) because the parent(s) are already famous/well-known themselves? so why the strange/weird/outrageous/unknown names, that they can come up with!? of course it's their business and perogative.....but how much more attention does a child born to beaitiful Beyonce and very wealthy rich Jay-z...need to be known....will the name Blue Ivy..really make the child anymore popular/famous/noticed......more than having those two very rich and famous Parents??
I guarantee on a percentage basis 99% of the voters who thought the name is "Super-Cute" is under the age of 30(I was going to say 25.....but nowadays...I don't know about that!).

I completely agree with your opinion. On the other hand what happens when blue ivy grows up it won't be cute at all. Plus their letting a perfectly normal child well in this case its the opposite this child is going to grow up spoiled, stuck up, and completely full of theirself. People a lot older my think its cute but grantee people in their 20's & teens my say other wise
  • MzFam3 Nakia D... 2012/01/24 19:02:54
How do you know what it will be 20 years from now? You can't possibly see that far into the future.

I wouldn't say 'super cute', but I don't see a problem with it. As long as Jay-Z's surname is Carter anyway...

Do celebrities ever stop and think about what a name will mean to a kid or do they just asume they can buy friends for the kid. Oh wait they do

I don't really care.. but it's almost purposely to make sure it is uncommon or to get attention. Now, her entire life when anyone says "Blue ____" or "____ blue", she will think they are speaking to her. Oh, well. Sounds like they are relying on "Numerology" for their decisions as well.

Everything about it was free publicity. Just take care of your kid and let others take care of theirs.

The first born of Beyonce and Jay-Z obviously needed an over the top name.
