When you think of a woman giving birth, you usually think of an exhausted, pale woman struggling (in pain) to get to the hospital. But not Beyonce. The newly crowned World's Most Beautiful Woman was totally ... beautified when she arrived at the hospital in January to give birth to baby Blue.

In fact, she actually felt amazing. "I felt more powerful than I've ever felt in my life," she says. "I felt connected to my body. I felt like I knew my purpose in the world." The singer says she gained 50 pounds during her pregnancy, but she's already lost most of the weight due to breastfeeding and a strict diet and exercise routine. Do you think it's sweet that she primped herself for Blue's birth -- or is it kind of ridiculous?

"I did have a fresh eyebrow wax," she tells People. "I got my nails done, I got my feet done, had my hair done, and I had my little lip gloss." But her efforts didn't quite pay off. "I didn't feel that I looked beautiful during birth, but who does? After being pumped with all those fluids and gaining so much weight ... I barely recognized myself," she says. "But after many hours of labor, I could care less about anything but my child. I didn't care how I looked."

If she had looked worn out and tired, people would complain about how terrible she looked even though most women don't exactly look their best after labor. Seeing that she looks beautiful after child birth, people are naturally going to say it was silly for her to get all "made up." It's a double edged sword. She probably knows she's going to be criticized no matter WHAT she does, so if I were a celebrity, I'd rather be nagged on for taking "silly measures" to "look good" for childbirth then for being talked about how "bad" I looked whether it's normal to look exhausted or not.

What exactly do getting mani-pedi's and eyebrow waxing have to do with being a "lady"?
If you think you can tell one just by what she looks like, then you deserve whatever you get.
Go ahead and CRY, ya big baby.
If it's because you want to look beautiful for the baby pictures and all then maybe it's a bit silly.
Giving birth is no picnic, so if there's anything that sets your mind at ease, moms-to-be, you have all the right to demand it, however "silly" it may sound to others.
Btw I only chose "silly" because I don't think it's "sweet", and as always, SH doesn't give you a f-ing "My opinion..."-option.
Why would someone name their baby Blue? Was he hypoxic?
They also always say how wonderful they feel afterward. I think it's the hormones. It makes them forget. Otherwise no one would have more than one child.
During my ob rotation, we had a patient who was 13 and in labor. She was awful. Whining, complaining, wouldn't push. So finally, somehow, this baby manages to come out, and the first thing she does is get on the phone and call her friends to tell them how easy it was. I could have strangled her with the phone cord.
It's the hormones. It makes them insane and amnesiac.
I'll try to leave that pregnancy stuff to those 'high' pain tolerance women.
