To remember them, and often. My oldest child died. I honor her by keeping her alive in my thoughts. I am an accomplished pianiost and there is a song I do often in memory of her. My genre is Southern Gospel, and the song is "It is Well With my Soul"
Thinking of them often, and living your life to your full potential. No one would want their loved ones to live forever burdened by their loss when they die.
I like the idea of a planted tree. myself. It will provide shade long after anyone who even remembers me is dead too.
I'll tell you what I DON'T like....
"In loving memory of so-and-so"
as a friggin window decal in the back window of a pick-up truck or car.
That's just nauseating.
REALLY??...You have such loving memories of this person, and the best you could come up with......is a sticker???
I agree. I don't think it matters how long ago they died, they need not be disturbed. The rising of the Titantic really bothered me, as so many people were buried there.
Remember what they stood for, and stand strong against closed minded ideas that lead to the sort of hatred and intolerance that nurtured these killers ideals.

I love it. Do you know the story behind it? The composer's wife and children were on a ship, going ahead of him.He received word that the ship had sank.He immedialty boarded another, and when they were at the location of the ship wreck, the capt. told him that this was where his daughters had drowned (wife survived). It was right there he wrote that song.
honor their memory ... their wishes ..
and live your life well ... in a honorable way ..
