That's like asking what was the best dinosaur- there is NO PLACE for SUVs in our modern economy

That is a ridiculous opinion. Some people need a truck for their business. You are unsympathetic to other people and think that everyone lives like you. Both of the major US car companies are in the process of making SUVs that get gas mileage as good as the Honda Accord. So grow up and quit being so closed-minded.

What did people that "need" SUVs do before 1990?? Answer 4 door cars, station wagons or mini-vans

Don't worry Suki, I'll wave hello as I drive by you while you're filling up your dino SUV

We had our pick ups. And FYI, the major car manufacturers are in the process of making trucks and SUVs that get gas mileage as good of that of a teenie sardini can car.

You're right. Back in the old days people only drove cars, by the strictest definition, unless they were using a truck for their job. The only truck people used for everyday driving was the VW Microbus, which was like the 60s version of today's minivans. SUVS did exist but they were used for safaris and things like that. Nowadays people drive anything they can possibly drive with a normal drivers license as everyday drivers. They'd drive tanks and cement mixers everyday if they could! The Hummer H1 and H2 are in the same classification as a dump truck!

My mom asked whether we should get a car or a "4 wheel drive" for are next family vehicle because "we need 4 wheel drive in Michigan because of the snow". My parents are older so all I can do is think about the old days when driving a "Jeep" as an everyday family car to pick up the groceries was ludicrous and not even imaginable. If I truly need extra traction for the snow I'm getting me a Subaru car. They handle much better than SUVs anyway.

One that doesn't exist. They all scare me, just walking past them in a parking lot scares me, let alone driving one. I always imagine them running me over, or running someone else over.

I was like that BEFORE I crashed the Jeep, but I'm not afraid anymore, that was just another quirk of the Miserable Car Nut Phase I was in.

But just because I'm not afraid anymore, does NOT mean I can appreciate nice cars. I still don't like anything other than regular cars with more than 4 cylinders, because everything else just doesn't make sense.

Read this comment to understand how my mind works.

Did you know that today's passenger cars have to be safe to be hit by on foot? That's right, styling on modern passenger cars is restricted for pedestrian safety now. So the old days of cars with tail fins and pointy headlights are over. Pop up headlights are illegal now because of that. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I just love it! More restrictions on car design!!!!!!

But really, when I see classic cars I hurt all over. Maybe it's because they have inferior brakes and vague steering combined with powerful engines and a lack of seat belts so I imagine having an accident in one and getting cut up by the iron maiden like interior, or maybe it's because I know if I got hit by one on foot I'd be a goner. Before the 60s they didn't even have safety glass for the windows (ouch!). I used to blame the way I crossed the street when I was in high school on today's car designs. "If they didn't look like big pieces of candy maybe I would have better timing when I cross the street".

The thought of vehicles that don't have the restrictions of a modern passenger car is still unsettling for me. I guess I'm down with restrictions in car design, I was like that ever since I first learned to drive. Happy to live in the 2000s.

I love the grille, which is inspired by the 1960's Lincoln Continental, which I'd like to own. The 1963 model specifically. And the interior is excellent as well. It would be perfect if if it had about 120 more brake horsepower, so it would beat the Escalade. It has 300, the Escalade has 403, so 120 would give it a healthy edge.
