There's nothing wrong with a woman drinking a beer. In fact, we've always thought that ladies who enjoy a good brew are arguably more fun than those who turn up their noses at the thought. But a front-page photo of a bride swilling a cold one out of the bottle has caused a "controversy" in New Zealand.

Katrina Hayman, a pig midwife (yes, you read that right), was photographed by the Taranaki Daily News drinking a beer as she "relived" her big day for the Taranaki Bride of the Year competition. "At your wedding you're relaxed because you have your family and friends around for support but in the competition you are sort of all by yourself," Hayman told the newspaper. "It was quite stressful. That's why I was drinking a beer."
However, the photo stirred outrage, and the contest's organizers demanded an apology from the newspaper for publishing the picture. As for Hayman, who tied the knot in March, she said no one would have cared if she'd been drinking wine. "I mean that is just the type of person I am," she reportedly said. "I don't like to portray myself as someone I am not. A lot of females drink beer and it's just I felt more comfortable having a beer than having a wine." Hayman didn't win the competition.

I am of course exaggerating with sarcasm and making fun of the thankfully very few morons who actually have this mindset about women. Calm down now, and let's get serious.
Personally I don't see what's gross. Because it's beer? The way she's drinking it? The type of beer?? Who gives a crap. The bottle is turned away so much, for all I can tell it's an old fashioned glass-bottled root beer bottle.
If you ask me, good on her. I'm not much of a wine drinker, and I know other women are with me in that. I myself LOVE a good cold one with my mates once in a while. Beer is not just a man's drink. :P
Barkeep! Newcastle's all around for the ladies!!
That's exactly what I was thinking. If it was champagne or something in a ritzy glass, people would shrug it off. How's that different from a beer bottle or beer stein though? Oooh, because it's all fancy and elegant and more lady like??
Puh-lease. A woman enjoying a good beer is hardly something to start a hissy fit over.
Are we seriously going to start deciding what's okay for women to drink?
This was not her wedding it was a reenactment for some sort of competition.
but here in the good ol
A woman swiggin a beer from a bottle is as American as ........
And you're right about that hideous tattoo. I wouldn't have thought it possible to make a collection of moles and back fat look even worse, but she found a way!
Oh hell yeah!
If my girl doesn't drink beer, she probably won't be my girl.
Too many people are uptight.
The 15 year old kids who get drunk and start fist fights in the streets of London will learn to drink responsibly by the time they're 19. We don't allow teenagers to drink a glass of wine with dinner in the US, so they never really learn how to drink responsibly until they're older and on their own. Treating alcohol like a taboo is what's causing so many of our young adults to binge drink and act completely ridiculous when they're finally exposed to it.
