Yes, if they do it consistently. Food breed bugs and bacteria which is dangerous to books, bindings and glue. It destroys books completely over time.

Yes. I'm a book lover, and wouldn't want them to be ruined by greasy fingers. Same for the computers, microfiche, and other aspects of a library.

Most people do not realize the damage microbes do to books.

I know that microbes can do damage to a lot of things I just did not connect the dots. You gave me my missing dot.

It does not matter if there is a mess or not, bacteria from food is on your hands.

For heaven sake, what is your problem. Microbes do not care and do not stay in one place either. They migrate like any other bug would and spread every where. They multiply as well.

I don't think someone should be barred on a first offense; however, I do believe that eating in a library should be prohibited. If one is hungry, go elsewhere where eating is appropriate. It's common sense.

It has nothing to do with making a mess. It has to do with bacteria. You cannot see them and they eat everything that books are made of.

    Yes.
It is a place of reading not a cafe or pub. Eating noises are a distraction. Plus it is gross when you find a load of crumbs and other food detritus under and on the tables and chairs. Also greasy fingers damage the books. The most you should be allowed is a bottle of drink.
