Fast-food joints have been doing a lot of strange things with bacon lately, but the latest concoction might be the nastiest. Jack in the Box, the California-based fast food chain, is selling a limited-edition Bacon Shake consisting of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, a maraschino cherry and "bacon flavored syrup," Yahoo! Shine reports.
Jack in the Box even has a new ad campaign for the product, featuring the slogan, "If you love bacon so much, why don't you marry it?" Well, just because we like bacon on Sundays doesn't mean we want to grow old with it ...
Ironically, there's no actual bacon in the shake -- just artificial flavors, according to Yahoo! But one 24-ounce cup has a whopping 1,081 calories -- almost an entire day's worth for some people. The Bacon Shake might be worth it for a once-in-a-while treat if it tastes amazing, but Brock Keeling, a blogger at SFist, called it "horrific. ... a heavy, lingering bland with a touch of smoke that doesn't go away."
Other chains have had major success with their bacon gimmicks -- Denny's Maple Bacon Sundae caused a sensation, and Wendy's Baconator burger sold 25 million in the first eight weeks of the promotion, according to Yahoo! We're kind of curious to give the Bacon Shake a try. Are you?
Go crazy over bacon, I do... but know bacon is killer to everyone's health... Bacon flavored cream is new fad, what kind of chemicals in bacon flavorings is my concern.
