According to ABC News, it seems that plastic surgery and breast implants are taking precedence over books and notepads. Some college-age women, according to ABC News, have confidence issues with their physical appearance. Whether it's breast implants or a breast reduction, more women are altering their anatomy during their university years for a multitude of reasons.

GMA.YAHOO.COM reports:
Among the latest must-have accessories for students across the country heading back to college is one that might surprise you. It’s not books or bedding. It’s breast or, namely, plastic surgery to achieve a different look.

    What the?
    Seriously?
Are they THAT uncomfortable with themselves as they are?
Do they not have CONFIDENCE in their ability to face the day with the skills, the talent for their chosen profession/art?

This is SO >>> shallow ..
why is 'surface' .. more important than just being a good human being?

Wow. That's just... yeah. Even ignoring the fact that you're making a sweeping generalization about an entire gender, you honestly think plastic surgery is a female-only issue? There are plenty of men out there getting themselves botox-ed and lining up for non-necessary liposuctions... not to mention the breast reductions.

ya that's in the news every...well never...for mentally stable men any ways

What, men who get cosmetic surgery aren't mentally stable? Women who do are? It varies by the individual, and if truth depends on what's shown in the news, well... we really are in trouble.

women are made to look good and strive for it...and then tell them they are not "good enough" by the photoshopped pictures of pseudo women in glamour magazines, is not fair.

men are made to build things and kill animals we dont need to be too attractive while doing it...why women find that attractive...I dont know
but the chickification of this generation of girly boys is...mentally unstable, yes

"Chickification"? "Girly boys"? "Women are made to look good, men are made to build and kill?"

Man, you're stuck in the 1950s. If you want any hope at understanding the modern world, you're going to have to learn how to change your perceptions. What you say may be true in terms of what our society's been believing for so long, but that doesn't mean it's the way it should be, or that we have any excuse for encouraging it.

and just because society is changing...doesnt mean that it should change...and I wasn't even born yet...in the 50's

So women should continue to have their worth judged based on their appearance? Yeah, sounds healthy to me.

sure, exaggerate everything you say, that's a good way to converse.

just curious as to what you might say to the fact that men are generally 25-30% stronger and 15% faster... coincidence?

Sometimes it's just hard, and unless you've been in that place where you understand how it feels to be extremely insecure about yourself, you wouldn't really get that.

I completely understand. I just wish people could feel as good about themselves as other people do about them.

It's true. But honestly, if I had the chance and the money, I'd get a nose job and implants. I mean if it makes you feel better about yourself and you really feel insecure about it to the point where it's just holding you back, I think it's fine and justifiable.

Don't do it. See my above comment about implants. They don't look good as a person ages.

In some cases it's understandable and well makes a girl feel better about herself in some cases. I had a friend who was well man chested...zippity do dah got slammed all though shool the whole pancake thing..helped her but to get it just for college, nope. Most people in college are a little more mature and don't pick on people they do their thing, be it study or get drunk.

That's true, I'm just saying if it's something that makes you feel better just about yourself, and you're really insecure about something, then I'd think it's not really a bad thing. Cause insecurities hold a lot of people back from living confidently a lot of times.
