According to ABC News, it seems that plastic surgery and breast implants are taking precedence over books and notepads. Some college-age women, according to ABC News, have confidence issues with their physical appearance. Whether it's breast implants or a breast reduction, more women are altering their anatomy during their university years for a multitude of reasons.

GMA.YAHOO.COM reports:
Among the latest must-have accessories for students across the country heading back to college is one that might surprise you. It’s not books or bedding. It’s breast or, namely, plastic surgery to achieve a different look.

    What the?
    Seriously?
Are they THAT uncomfortable with themselves as they are?
Do they not have CONFIDENCE in their ability to face the day with the skills, the talent for their chosen profession/art?

This is SO >>> shallow ..
why is 'surface' .. more important than just being a good human being?

Also it depends on the job...

For example if you are going to work for Hooters, you have to look like a Model.

sorry DOCTOR PLASTIC SURGERY!! the kids in Corona del Mar and Newport are (too often) raised to think that they need plastic surgery even as kids ... Corona del Mar and Newport produce some pretty screwed up kids ...

Perhaps because their parents are already on their 3rd feather lift and abdominoplasty by the time the kids are old enough to walk? Or maybe because of Orange counties insatiable appetite for Botox?

Kids have self image problems too, not just adults. I am not saying that operating on adolescents is the right choice (since it does pose additional health risks) but younger people learn this behavior from their parents and the media. That is hardly my fault, and you might be surprised by the number of patients we turn away.

How we sometimes justify it is this: If we say No, they are probably just going to go to somebody else. Eventually, they will find a doctor willing to perform whatever it is they want. Unfortunately, these are normally substandard doctors with inadequate facilities. You have to factor this into the decision making process.

LOL. As big into cycling and outdoor activities as you seem to be, I highly doubt you will ever need me anytime soon. Plus, I have a standing rule that I never operate on or treat anyone I know personally. It tends to complicate relationships, and I struggle with that enough already :)

Easily fixed, and we would only have to put you under for a little over an hour, with limited recovery time.

It could be worse, you could be the victim of what I like to call "basset hound syndrome". You wont find that term at the AMA :)

America has produced yet another generation of losers. These "kids" will not win. They will produce yet more cak when they are old enough to intercourse. Emphasis on the intercourse

As for the self image. America has no sympathy for what is real so teaches their offspring and that I'm sure will recur.
