According to ABC News, it seems that plastic surgery and breast implants are taking precedence over books and notepads. Some college-age women, according to ABC News, have confidence issues with their physical appearance. Whether it's breast implants or a breast reduction, more women are altering their anatomy during their university years for a multitude of reasons.

GMA.YAHOO.COM reports:
Among the latest must-have accessories for students across the country heading back to college is one that might surprise you. It’s not books or bedding. It’s breast or, namely, plastic surgery to achieve a different look.

    What the?
    Seriously?
Are they THAT uncomfortable with themselves as they are?
Do they not have CONFIDENCE in their ability to face the day with the skills, the talent for their chosen profession/art?

This is SO >>> shallow ..
why is 'surface' .. more important than just being a good human being?

This is ridiculous. I'm in college and am already up to my eyeballs in debt because of student loans, why would I want to add more to that by getting plastic surgery?

Well, it's a sad situation when these girls need to result to having breast implants in order to have more self-esteem. And according to those I have seen on television, they also feel more self confident. Yeah, right. They are more confident they'll get hit on more often when they're out bar hopping. And it builds up their self-esteem because they now have what the other girls had that lowered their self- esteem to begin with. So now they can strut around with their big fake breasts and make other girls feel even more uncomfortable about their bodies and lower their self-esteem. We all know that the majority of females don't base their self-worth on how big their boobs are. And that's a refreshing thought. The photos are nice, though.

I don't know if this is par for the course with ABC news or what...

but there are some who need reductions because of sheer size. My ex wife had larger then DDD's, to give one example. That's a back breaker.

But for those that need larger? Get real.

What is it with us and image problems? And this is going to be a tad bit sexist but... why are girls in particular always so damn conscious?

Is your self esteem that low?

They will keep their brains much longer than their beauty. Learning while your young is much easier, stop giving other people's opinions so much power over you.

What can you expect from a society that idolizes an unattainable standard of physical beauty instead of seeing the beauty that is inside each person.

I'm going to step out of my personal beliefs box here. Of all the things that a young woman might think she needs to get ahead in the college scene (social life included), plastic surgery is not one of them!
College is definitely the one place where, if you weren't accepted socially before, you can be socially accepted now!

I've had many instances of surgery for a medical condition I have, I'm almost 43, and some people have had more plastic surgery than I've had legitimate medical surgery for the aforementioned condition. If they feel so bad about themselves they need that much surgery, maybe they need to see a psychiatrist rather than a surgeon.

Breast reduction: okay, fine, that's fair, one has enough back problems with carrying around all their textbooks, much less the added problem at huge breasts (seriously), but unless there's a medical reason, save your money. I mean, post-secondary education costs an arm and a leg, who can even afford to add more to your credit card bills?

I don't want to say lame because not all plastic surgery is bad. If a girl feels extremely uncomfortable about her weight or her breasts and it is a confidence issue, plastic surgery should be an opinion. But doing it yearly and getting addicted at such a young age is definitely "lame". College age women should focus on hitting those books instead of hitting the operation table.

Noooo.... Uh... Aave that for AFTER college. Besides, you are ruining yourself and closing yourself from people who actually like tiny tits like A's and B's. -_- Also, there are ways to make your boobs look big and perky... But that is a lie...in a way.

It goes to show how the shallow media has deluded people into thinking they are not worthy unless they have the 'ideal' look, at any cost.

Don't buy into it. It's better to look unique than a carbon copy of someone else.

I think women care about what men have more than men care about what women have. More often than not, if a guy loves a girl, that's it. He's going to take her on with all her baggage and out-there-beliefs, you all know what I'm talking about, just to be close to her as much as he can.

If you're a guy seeking a girl though, to have DECENT chances you need to be armed with more than adequate social skill in speaking to women and something impressive to back it up with be it an aesthetically pleasing look, financial supremacy, and/or status. Women outright say you have to impress the girl on the date, nothing about being yourself. You'd think that as long as you clicked, being loving and thoughtful would be enough but not really. Trust me no one dislikes what I'm saying more than me, but is a harsh reality every guy outside that criterion live,

If girls have to upgrade too to cement themselves in that judgmental position, it's not right but it's a start.
