Baby 'for sale' on eBay returns home: Should the parents be allowed to have their baby back?

Miranda July 03, 2008 20:58:58

A baby boy removed from his parents' custody after they offered to sell him on eBay for just a euro -- $1.59 -- as a joke is back at home.

The parents maintained that the posting was just a joke gone awry. Investigators agreed, dropping their probe into possible child trafficking.

"Offering my nearly new baby for sale, as it has gotten too loud. It is a male baby, nearly 28 inches long and can be used either in a baby carrier or a stroller," read the original eBay ad that ran on May 24.

Do you think that the parents should have their baby back, seeing as it was a joke?
Absolutely! They were kidding, even if it was a bad joke.

I think one very important aspect has been overlooked here, and that is the fact that ebay have absolutely no idea what people are up to on their site!!! you think you are protected on ebay, but this proves all that is bullshit !!!!

The though of selling the baby was on their mind or they would have never thought of this "joke". There are people out there trafficking in humans, and it is no joking matter.

Obviously, by the price set, it seems for all purposes to be a joke. A very stupid one, but a joke nonetheless. I do believe there should be some legal requirement, such as community service, so they will not repeat such an idiotic act.

Damn it to hell! People need to lighten the F up!! It was a joke, and if the kid grows up with ANY kind of sense of humor, he'll laugh at this shit.

While it may have been in poor taste, they weren't actually trying to sell their child. Certainly not for one euro.

What is going to happen one day to this little guy when he is a teen and realizes that his parents did this? Will he find it funny that they used him for their own amusement, rather than giving him love??

I find it reprehensible, disturbing on many levels and downright shocking. But I find a lot of parenting decisions the same and they don't take babies away for a lot of negligent reasons. In this case a bad joke (assuming it was) does not equal loss of child. I do think there should be mandated parenting classes. I hope they have learned their lesson.
