Entire communities have been lost. Over 700 homes homes gone, and counting..
65 people have perished, and that number WILL rise.
Over 4000 volunteers, fire fighters, police and emergency services have been battling the fronts, and struggle to gain control.
Australian state, Victoria, have been devastated by one of the worst bushfires in the states history over the last 72 hours; reminiscent of the Ash Wednesday fires in 1983, which claimed 47 lives.
Survivors are gathering around surrounding communities with only the clothes on their back, and nothing to return to, unsure of whether their friends and neighbours made it out alive.
New South Wales is also battling a number of fires, and many remain burning out of control. Many fires suspected of being deliberately lit.
Queensland, Australia's sunshine state is half way under water, as the North has suffered torrential rain for the last week. The area being declared a disaster zone. Many towns and home under 6 feet of water, and all power cut off.
Please. Spare a thought for the Aussies battling to survive during this horrid week. Please keep them in your prayers, thoughts and hearts. Please lights candles for those who have lost their lives, and wish a speedy recovery for those who have been injured.

Tarryn 2009/02/08 07:55:37I am at a loss for words...

my dad's a fireman and he was supposed to be going on one of the teams on friday night, he didn't have to because the weather turned out to be not as bad as they'd expected but it wouldn't have been the first time
its horrible all this shit happening on the east coast
i'm lucky not to have been affected much though, considering how close it got
a fire started only 5-10 km away from where i live
=S
that was scarey
I used to work in Kinglake where a lot of the worst of it was, so it was a bit hard to watch it from so far up here.
its amazing though how farsppread its become
almost everyone knows someone who's there
or knows someone who knows someone who's there
its unbelievable
apparently tomorrows gonna be a bad one to
like cyclone force winds
=S
ahh well
good luck to them all
i hope no more start, and though this is selfish, i really hope none start close to me
=S
I always felt a close attraction, a kinship really, with Australians. I hope this tragedy passes soon and the terrible suffering will end as quickly as possible.
so horrible
I used to work in the community most affected. It's been a struggle knowing that so many families who allowed me into their homes now no longer have one.
It is a horrible string of events, however, I wish for the best.
Murder times 108 +
New death toll in the Melbourne/Victoria fires: 84 confirmed dead, 7-- homes detroyed, 2000 sqaure km of fires.
the army is heading in to help this week.
180 confirmed dead. 750+ homes destroyed
it really is a tragedy...
New Zealand is sending in firefighters and helicopters in
It's so terrible, so many people have lost their homes or even their entire towns.
It's been confirmed that at least some of the fires were started by arsonists, to think that people could be so irresponsible and reckless to endanger so many lives!! i hope they are caught and charged with murder!
It's just awful beyond words, God bless all those who have lost family members and homes.
All I can say is that I hope that these disasters would cease soon, and my thoughts and best wishes go out to everyone in Australia, especially to those who have lost loved ones to these tragic incidents.
These poor people. I'm so glad though, that we have such dedicated workers that are trying to fix this.
Thank you for bringing this to the attention of people, I have a feeling that most members of this site believe that America is the only country that has problems.
