Australia Warns America: Don’t Let Them Take Your Guns!

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/08/19 00:49:01

Government officials and citizens in Australia speak out to warn America “Don’t Let Them Take Your Guns!” According to reports when the Gun Ban went into effect in Australia the crime rate spiraled out of control. The police officers are overwhelmed and are unable to protect the citizens due to so much crime.

When the forced gun ban (buy back program) went into effect law abiding citizens had to turn in their semi automatic firearms, pump action rifles, and shotguns or face going to jail. Six hundred forty thousand conventional firearms were taken out of the hands of law abiding citizens, confiscated and destroyed. Law abiding citizens followed the law and turned in their weapons. Citizens were promised safety in return for turning in their guns. Does any of this sound familiar, like UN Gun Treaty perhaps?

Since the gun ban in Australia, armed robberies are up 69%, assaults with guns up 28%, gun murders increased 19%, and home invasions jumped 21%. More proof that not only does gun control not work, it makes it safer for the criminals at large.

Our own FBI reports that crime goes down as legal gun ownership goes up.

Do you think Hollywood would have to start making some decent films with a proper story instead of all the 'pump action' nonsense that we are served up ad nauseam now? ;-)

I am mostly in agreement with you and especially about the banks. The behaviour of British banks has been utterly deplorable and contemptuous to moral decency. I am not American so I'm afraid that I am not completely up to speed with its Constitution. The banks have hardly been out of the news over the last year or so with everything from deliberate receipt of funds when it was known to be money laundering for terrorist organisations, to fixing the so-called Libor rate.

I was just interested in how the use of guns could effect the changes that are needed. You may have gathered that I am not an advocate of guns (anywhere). :-)

No, I didn't watch it as soon as I saw it was over 40 minutes long. I am not interested enough to spend that amount of time on it. I questioned your statement:

"How bout we use our guns to take back our country, while we still have our guns"

and asked you specifically how you would put this into effect. You have not been able to do that. As for justifying guns in general - well for me they are not justified in a civilised society. Please read the very robust response from the Australian lady Noobcake. There is not a lot more one can add to that. Most decent-minded citizens of Great Britain are of the very same opinion. I live in a society where not only would the concept of an armed burglar be incomprehensible but our front door is left unlocked during the day. I am not saying there is no crime - just that criminals generally are unarmed - like our police force. Guns are evil but I cannot see America even being rid of them. The concept of gun ownership is so deeply entrenched in your society that it is (sadly) just part of everyday life.

Australia has become a sad, sad place. The crime rate has increased to the point of chaos. There is also a high population of Muslims. Nuff said

You know nothing about Australia's crime rate and it's relevance to gun laws other than what propaganda like this article tell you. Do you see ANY sources in the article provided? No? That's because they don't exist. I'm quite fed up of gun toting Americans abusing facts, or simply making them up, about my country and others to support their own stance on gun laws.

Things really are peachy keen there, eh?

In Australia, The Herald Sun reports that Visy Industries, a recycling and packaging company (slogan: “For a Better World”), has been employing Hells Angels as debt collectors. Visy allegedly had been selling boxes to a criminal organization in the fruit and vegetable business that refused to pay its bills. Other mainstream businesses have also sought closer ties with the biker gang.

OMG? We have crime? No way! Like, I totally thought all Australians and everyone who lives here were by default good and lawful people!

Do you think I am a retard? If I could be bothered I could find a similarly negative and current article for each and every country with a sizeable population right now. That article means nothing.

But, now you mention it, you may have noticed that here on Sodahead they recently made a poll regarding Melbourne, Australia's place at #1 on the 2012 Global Livability Scale - which takes into account crime among other things. 4 of our 8 capital cities were in the TOP 10 and ALL our capital cities rated above ANY American city. So I think we mustn't be doing TOO bad, don't you think??

    Can Gun Control Reduce Crime?

What about the experience of other countries? In 1997, just 12 months after a new gun law went into effect in Australia, homicides jumped 3.2 percent, armed robberies 44 percent, and assaults 8.6 percent. In the state of Victoria, homicides went up 300 percent. Before the law was passed, statistics showed a steady decrease in armed robberies with firearms. In 1998, in the state of South Australia, robbery with a firearm increased nearly 60 percent. In 1999, the assault rate in New South Wales rose almost 20 percent.

Gun Control and left-wing politicians said great things about the new law. A university of criminology professor stated, "It is probable that the crime rate will drop by up to 20 percent."

Nothing of the sort happened, in fact just the opposite took place. In 1997, just 12 months after the new laws went into effect, across Australia homicides jumped 3.2 percent, armed robberies were up a whopping 44 percent, assaults up 8.6 and in the state of Victoria there was a 300 percent increase in homicides. Prior to the new dictatorial anti-gun laws, statistics showed a steady decrease in armed robberies with firearms; now, there has been a dramatic increase in break-ins, especially against the elderly.

In 1998, in the state of South Australia, robbery with a firearm increased nearly 60 percent. In 1999, new figures reveal that the assault rates in the state of NSW has risen almost 20 percent.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the crime rate for burglary in America is now substantially less than Australia, Canada, and Britain.
