On our site, we definitely see lots of beautiful parties for babies and toddlers, however, we still see amazingly creative parties for teens. The main difference is the guests are all kids, and the themes are driven by what the birthday boy or girl wants. For example, take a look at these fantastic teen birthdays on our site and see how fun but mature they feel..

Sometimes it is good to go all out. And it depends on the person who is having the birthday if they want it then you should go for it, it is what they want. And if they don't then they don't but do whatever makes them happy it is their birthday after all.

Growing up, I never had birthday parties with my friends over. I prefer my birthday to be a quiet affair with family and maybe a close friend or two.

By that, I mean a formal birthday party...by middle school, they want to invite a few friends for skating and pizza, or matinee movie and pizza, or paint ball zones, then KFC. I don't consider these a 'birthday party' with cake, ice cream, games, prizes, etc. My kids designed their own 'celebrations' when they were in middle school and on--they didn't want a 'birthday party, per se`.

I love giving my daughter birthday parties, I think I enjoyed them more than her. But throught these years birthday parties changed, Certain birthday I invited all the relatives
at her 5, 10, 16, graduation partie, But with her friends that was every year, that was at
major magic, leap and bounds, discovery zone, sometime at the house.
But those are memories I won't forget.

No one will ever be too old for a party. I've always had parties. The onnlybig one I've ever had was when I was in 3rd grade. (Believe it or not I had friends then)

I personally am 15 and have never had a birthday party but if they want a birthday party but if they want it they should help pay and plan for it

yes they should put some money out of their own pockets and as they get older they should more and more of the cost percentage

My daughter, who will be 6 on the 22nd, works her little tush off year round earning money to get the things she wants. She would be crushed if I told her she had to pay towards her own birthday party. Sure, she helps plan, but the financial side of it should never enter her thought.
  • raschell97 Faith ~... 2012/08/08 06:13:52
    raschell97
well I don't mean at age 6 but when they get to age 12 they need to help pay

Even at 12 she would be crushed. The day is about celebrating her, not worrying about the bill.

I've had to work all my life for every thing even the celebrations and pay and it hasn't hurt me any but that is the way of life for a West Texas ranch kid

Sorry to butt in here but was that sarcasm? o3o if not then what kind of job does your 6yo have?
  • Faith ~... SundayS... 2012/08/08 15:39:10

Not at all sarcasm. She works around the house, laundry, dishes, cleaning. And she works at the office as well. She made $10,000 last year, she paid taxes on her income, and it is in a college fund for her right now.

You have never had a birthday party. How sad. I feel like crying for you. I guess if you never had one, you can't miss what you never had.

It doesn't have to be a big bash. Just cake/cupcakes and ice cream to celebrate turning another year older. Life should be celebrated.

Pay for it yourself? No. Even during the Great Depression my mother and father were given birthday parties. Not as birthday parties are done today. Their moms would bake them a cake and their dads would use some of the family's rations to buy some ice cream.

As I said, I feel so sad for you. I am sending you a BIG hug.

it's really not that sad I don't like the fuss anyways birthdays aren't celebrated in my family to us it's just like anyother day we wake up go to work then come in for lunch go back out and work until dinner it's hard work but the work brings the family closer together so I like workling all day outside

As I said, you can't miss what you never had. You do have something others don't a faimily that is close. This is something to be cherished.

Also, it is great to be outdoors. Too many spend too much time indoors. I myself love being outdoors all year long. Even in the New England winter.

I'd probably be very irritable if I were to have to deal with New England weather since I'm used to hot 100+ degree Texas weather

It is all about what you are use to. I've lived in New England all my life. In the summer it is swimming, canoeing/kayaking, going to the beach. In the Fall hiking is a big thing to do during the peak foliage time. In the winter skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding (I did not have snowboarding when I was a young person but the young people today enjoy it), skating. Then of course there is Spring; which fills all of us here in New England with anticipation after a long winter.

I'm sure i'ts very pretty there in the spring here in west Texas we get cactus plants and saltbush in summer but not too many colors until then red dirt and hardly anything else kinda bland weather too the ranchers are getting hurt bad by this drought I think i'ts the worst drought in Texas history
