My kids are grown. When they were kids I never, ever had to lay a hand on them. When they misbehaved I simply addressed him or her by their first and middle names and gave them "the look." Worked like a charm. (I was a former Marine Drill Instructor)

I would ground her, take the t.v away, not allow her to call her friends, and no computer for a week ( 7 day week ). I would not take the cell phone away because I would not allow my 14 year old to have a cell phone in the first place.

Spanking a child is fine. Getting into the teenage years asks for other methods.
What I ask, is what got this kid to that point?
When my kids tried to sharpen their teeth on me, they found out who had the power. I don't back down.

No, I would not slap her - I would however ground her completely for a minimum of two weeks - no phone, no internet access. When she is willing and able to make a sincere apology with a plan for the future she would be ungrounded. If that is not possible for her ego, then she can be grounded until age 18!
