Artemis also called Diana

artemis diana
The daughter of Zeus, and the twin of Apollo. Artemis is the goddess of the wilderness, the hunt and wild animals, and fertility (she became a goddess of fertility and childbirth mainly in cities). She was often depicted with the crescent of the moon above her forehead and was sometimes identified with Selene (goddess of the moon). Artemis was one of the Olympians and a virgin goddess. Her main vocation was to roam mountain forests and uncultivated land with her nymphs in attendance hunting for lions, panthers, hinds and stags. Contradictory to the later, she helped in protecting and seeing to their well-being, also their safety and reproduction. She was armed with a bow and arrows which were made by Hephaestus and the Cyclopes

Artemis is a super sexy tomboy virgin goddess. Being a virgin, for her, means being at that stage in life when you are most attractive to eligible bachelors and yet still titillatingly off limits. She was a complete Daddy's girl and, endowed with the precociosity of all the gods, sat on Zeus' knee not long after her birth and demanded of him a long list of things including his word to never force her into marriage. Unlike Athena, she is very committed to her mother Leto and her defense helps gain Artemis the name "Arrow-pouring." She may have spent her time running through the woods like the hunter she was, but she still stepped up to defend herself and other Olympians against giants. Artemis was a strong protectress of young women and even young men, but expected perfection from her followers and her punishment for those who didn't meet her expectations was often death.
young women young expected perfection followers punishment meet expectations death
Artemis was not the least interested in cultivating the land or in harnessing the forces of nature to benefit mankind (she left those responsibilities to Demeter and Athena, respectfully). Artemis could easily be described as an early environmentalist.
Artemis seemed to be more comfortable with the companionship of women friends.

When the hunter Actaeon accidentally came upon Artemis while she was bathing, she turned him into a stag, whereupon his own hunting dogs Chased Actaeon and after a long chase attacked and tore him to pieces.

Artemis could be both vengeful and impulsive. When she discovered that Callisto, one of the nymphs in her band of companions, had violated her vows of chastity and become pregnant as a result of an affair with Zeus, Artemis, without a moment's hesitation, Artemis changed her into a bear. Had Zeus not intervened to place her in the stars as the constellation Callisto (The Bear), the young nymph would have died quickly as the victim of a hunt

With the exception of her brother Apollo, who was a frequent ally and companion, Artemis was not known to have had very satisfying relationships with men. Her one great love affair Orion.

Orion was the handsomest man in the world, a mighty hunter, an untiring dancer, a hearty eater. Many women loved him, and so did the men, Even the gods and goddesses took notice of him, and enjoyed his company. But his favoured fortune led to his early death and legendary destiny. Such is the fate of heroes

Upset that his sister's time and attentions had been diverted away from him, the jealous Apollo tricked Artemis into killing Orion. Knowing that Orion was swimming in the ocean, Apollo bet Artemis that she could not hit "that distant object on the horizon" with an arrow.
Filled with confidence in her skills as an archer, Artemis accepted the challenge. Successful as always, Artemis discovered that her competitiveness and unerring aim had killed the only man she had ever loved.
In her grief, the goddess Artemis turned her dead lover into stars and shot him into the night sky where he remains as the constellation Orion. Never again did she allow herself to become vulnerable to romantic lovestars shot sky remains constellation orion nbspnever vulnerable romantic love
in other stories its said that Apollo sent a scorpion to sting and kill Orion
nbspnever vulnerable romantic love stories apollo scorpion sting kill orion
Artemis often punished men who tried to rape women.

Artemis and Apollo came to the rescue of their mother, Leto, who was about to be raped by the giant Tityus. Apollo and Artemis killed him and condemned him to eternal punishment in Tartarus Artemis and Apollo also joined together to defend their mother when Niobe boasted of her twelve children compared to Leto's twins. The twins killed all of Niobe's children, one by one. If Apollo brings swift and natural death to men with his arrows and Artemis brings swift and natural death to women with her arrows, then it would make sense that Apollo killed the six boys and Artemis killed the six girls
Artemis is one goddess who Demands respect

I am such a guy..tireless dancer..unerring aim..fits me like polyester. My opinion is..if anyone out there understands what it is when kindred souls meet..he was about to sleep with her when Apollo killed him. if anyone pure of heart has slept with a lesbian then they know..rightly so.

Artemis thought that friendship with women was more important than friendship with men, and she is considered a goddess of all women. She also refused to follow traditional gender roles. Her female lovers included: Atalanta, Britomartis, Cyrene, Anticleia, Syrinx, Taygete, Zabeta, Callisto, and Amethyst. Artemis was worshipped by the Amazons.

Wasn't Diana her Roman name? Now that's a lady who knew what she wanted and confident of her abilities. Any human involved with a goddess or god for that matter usually came out on the losing end and through no fault of their own.

As an aside, what man wouldn't look at such a developed female naked body, goddess or human.
    (have I phrased that right?)

The Romans stole the gods & goddesses from the Greeks, changed their names and then according to the Romans, the Greeks became inferior to them. Well Romans were Romans and their descendents have their moments.

The first word that comes to mind about Actaeon is "dumbass" and the 2nd is he got what he deserved. Life's a bitch and then you die but it's how you live it that matters and he obviously wasn't living it too well.

well greek and romans both were pagan but not all pagan cultures have simlar gods
the saxons or norse have a few simlar goddess like Gaea and a few others but the other gods and goddess are totally differant from the Avers or Celts or Dantis or mesolions or Greeks or Romans or German pagans ( the goths )

true the romans borrowed the greeks ideas of goddess and gods or just incorporated them together merging etc but the thing is the romans didnt force the greeks to call artemis Diana or worship their version of the gods everyone was free to call their god or goddess whatever name they had for them
  • baboula ☥☽✪☾DAW... 2011/04/25 06:51:52
I know they could and are different. Geographical area played a big factor in determining the gods and their hierarchy (for lack of a better word)
The Romans thought the Greeks were inferior (they didn't water their wine) and except for the Christians and when conquering, the Roman attitude towards religion was "to each their own"

romans were Dicks espally near the end of the empire of rome they pissed off all the other pagan tribes off and the smaller tribes fought them weaking rome prolly leading to the fall of rome

but same time the romans did leave a legacy behind of a great empire that lasted i think close to 2000 years before they fell

its quite common among the pagan sects that one godddess just has many differant names one of our goddess has 15 differant names

    heres some of them
Hecate Goddess of the Crossroads and balance of nature

    Hekate (Cosmic Soul)

    Hekete (The All Powerful)

Kurotrophos (Nurse of the Children and Protectress of mankind)

    Phosphoros (the light-bringer)

Trioditis ( Latin: Goddess of Three Roads)

Klêidouchos (Keeper of the Keys of heaven)

    Chtonian (Earth/Underworldgoddess);

    Crataeis (the Mighty One);

    Enodia (Goddess of the paths)

    Antania ( protector of womankind)

Heq/Heket (Egyptian goddess Goddess of the Paths )

    Trivia (roman name of Hecate)

Zerynthia ( Of the Earth )

Antaia "The Sender Of Nocturnal Visions

Libra ( the Zodiac Sign Balance and justice )

still some goddess and gods have allot of kids mapping genealogically is difficult

    Poseidon example has 300 kids

the fun part of these ancient stories is remakeing them slightly so its all good its part of honoring them
its like some norse pagans got upset with the thor and marvel comics of the pagan gods
but many are like hey they are reinventing the stories and honoring them
