On both sides of the pond, without the sacrifices of soldiers, sailors, marines, and air forces from the UK and the US the world would be in just unimaginable straits at this point in history without that shared sacrifice.

How right you are Callaway,and with the state our nations are in perhaps in time we will have to turn to them to combat the enemy within

And let me offer a special thank you to the members of the BAOR who had enough faith in my 'rookies' to allow us to complete a live-fire exercise with them at Grafenwoehr in 1989. Much to my surprise, and in answer to my fervent prayers, we all survived!

All of the above....I'm British born and bred...my Grandparents on both sides of the famly served in the British Army in WW1 and 2, my Mother and Father served in Burma WW2 that's where they met...without there efforts my life would be entirely different to the one that I know.
I'm extremely grateful to them all and I salute those men and women who have served and are serving in the forces.

All the above. A childhood friend failed to return from the Falklands. My father served alongside the Brits in North Africa. Our nations owe a tremendous debt to so many who gave so much.

I respect the men and women that fight for our country but do not support a Armed Forces Day. We have Rememberance Day and that remembers the sacrifice and the cost of the two world wars. I do not think we should glorify war, because we forget the true cost of war then. Wasn't that the point of rememberance to prevent wars. I know that in a imperfect world wars will take place but I think people respect troops any way. Also in a culture we have at present what kind of messages are we sending to our troops. Troops are being disabled because of conflicts and how many young widows are there now. Also how many unemployed soldiers are there and how many regiments are being disbanded. What messages are we giving to troops who do not know if they are going to be made redundant when they have finished fighting for this country. How can we send troops to fight in conflicts and cut back on defense spending. Some of these defense cuts have meant active service men have received emails telling them they are being made redundant.
