I don't want to part of any scheme for looting the customers out of their money.

Only meat cuts, though. Pink slime is disgustingly tasteless.

It depends on the food item. Fruit/veg- I have a list of food you should buy organic, like apples, strawberries, celery etc. I will buy apples no problem, but other things are so expensive I wait until they're on sale, like strawberries.
Can't afford to eat totally organic all the time, especially the meat.

Organic products should not cost more than non-organic ones. I believe we should all do our part to take care of this glorious planet within reason, because even little things can make a difference. But we shouldn't be gouged for choosing organic.

oh yeah... thats all i buy for my children, and we have our own garden and the kids like to get out there and watch their plants grow. i know a handful of corn and soy bean farmers and only a few do organic for the health reason but i cost alot more to farm, ive seen from my own eyes how much nasty chemicals and pesticides are put on the corn we all eat.. so i choose to not feed it to my children

Well then, you're out of luck with "organic" products.

not so....in my own kitchen garden...I plant lots of marigolds to keep the bugs away, and I get Praying mantis's to help...if you pay attention to the plants you can get pretty good product without chemicals.....I dig manure and my bean plants into the soil too...some techniques areactually cheaper than using chemicals

Sure, it's possible to do on a small scale (i.e. your kitchen garden), but not on the scale necessary to feed 6 billion people. If you notice, I was referring to organic products (i.e. commercially sold), rather than what people grow in their personal gardens.

I know I know and you are correct... I wish more folks would take advantage of so many ways to grow a few things...whether its a container garden on the deck, many areas have community plots now...an food co-ops also//but I still find many organics...mostly root veggies and some greens,,,in an organic deptment of my local grocery...that are pretty good...thier fruits look kinda puny tho

I agree. More people should grow at least some of their own food. I've been thinking of setting up some planter boxes on the patio, but unfortunately I've got such a black thumb I'm sure my gardening project would end in failure. For some reason live plants don't do very well under my care.

we have had real good luck with the upside down planters for tomatoe plants...next to no bugs or plant illness...you just plant and keep them watered
  • Dan™: R... bluelady 2012/04/21 16:52:48
Dan™: Real Change, Not False Hope
I might try that. I've actually had a lot of problems with the bugs. I suspect they were the cause of the premature demise of my last house plant. When I threw it out, there were a gazillion little mites crawling around in the soil. What are those things anyway? And tomatoes would be great to grow -- I love tomatoes. Thanks for the tip.

Bingo! Why haven't these misguided "organic" fanatics realized that the modern agricultural revolution was just as consequential as the industrial revolution?

Already have to pay enough for fresh as it is. Thats why it burns my a#$ for Michelle Obama to get on tv and say eat healthy its better for you when you can't afford to because it cost so dang much more. When you have to feed a family and you only have x amount of dollars you are going to get the best deals and let me tell you fresh isn't it and organic sure in the he$% isn't.

The "organic" movement is a fraud through and through. There is nothing organic about the methods used in so-called organic farming. It's just an excuse to charge more money for crops grown using backwards and outdated methods. And there is no improvement in the quality of those overpriced "organic" crops.

absolutely and fair trade, free range, humane society tick products too.
the more that people buy them the more that they will have to produce, the more farms that will make the switch the cheaper they become. (its true guys, look at any exotic food and you will see the same thing happen)
yes they have less chemicals in them, but that doesn't automatically make them cheaper especially seing as there has to be more work done in order to maintain them.

It's a scam. The price to pay for organic foods where you're paying more for the plastic bags they come in, than the food itself.

Good thing I'm growing my own fruit and vegetables. Might as well get organic seeds since it's much cheaper to begin with.

These "organic" products won't help neither the planet, neither our digestive systems. If you want real healthy food, go directly to a small scale farmer, preferably one who farms as a hobby.

Nope, I don't like chemicals that make food prettier- organic food isn't always beautiful but it tastes better and it's better for you. It's more important to buy some things organic than others.
