Apple is reducing prices for its 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display laptops while also upgrading their processors, just a few months after releasing the laptop models.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina, as it is commonly referred to, will now sell for $1,499 and $1,699 -- down from $1,699 and $1,999. The higher-end model will now also possess a 2.6GHz quad-core processor, up from a 2.5GHz quad-core processor.

Apple also improved the processors for its 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina laptops. Its $2,199 model now has a 2.4GHz quad-core processor, up from 2.3GHz quad-core, and the $2,799 model now has a 2.7GHz quad-core processor and 16 gigabytes of RAM, up from a 2.6GHz quad-core and 8 GB of RAM.

My 17" laptop has a quad core with 6 GB of RAM (more RAM than most people use) and was more than half the price of that thing. Why would I pay that much for so much excess? Not to mention I hate how controlling Apple is. If I could just go completely Linux I would.

Why pay more when you can get something that is faster and better for half the price.

    Windows 8 is crap though.

Maybe one day. Have the 13 inch air and I love it. I not sure I could go to the pro simply because of how much more it would weigh.

Only if they cut their prices to the level of reasonable and affordable. Otherwise I'll keep my well working PC that I built myself and did not flush over $1K for.

I enjoy my Apple products. I don't care if the market isn't open source or it's not a gaming computer. I still have a horrible Windows laptop and will probably be keeping it as something on the side. I have a Galaxy Note 2 and an Apple iPad 2 and enjoy both of them. Out of everything, the Apple and Android products blow the Windows product out of the water.

Apple makes nice gadgets but they are overpriced and Apple is so proprietary they make Microsoft look like a champion of open source.

but windows is so bloated, and so not optimized.
  • JeffDeWitt democoach 2013/02/15 02:31:26

Perhaps, but today's computers can handle it. For bang for the buck and flexibility Windows PC's have it all over Mac's.

I BUILT my favorite PC, the thing looks like a 60 year old radio and it rocks. To get a Mac remotely equivalent would cost twice as much, wouldn't look nearly as cool, and I wouldn't have had the fun of building it myself.

my macbook looms really good, and doesn't have a bloated system, so it does not require huge specs to function properly unlike windows.
lets take a mac and a pc both with same specs, the one with windows will be much slower then the mac. windows needs so much more just to function right.

    macs are better for that
  • JeffDeWitt democoach 2013/02/15 15:47:07
    JeffDeWitt
Perhaps, instead of matching specs for specs we could match dollar for dollar and the Windows machine would blow away the Mac.

    Bang for the buck.
  • democoach JeffDeWitt 2013/02/15 17:38:55
    democoach
no spec for spec, id rather pay more for something that works and will remain fast for years then pay less (even for more specs) but have it be slow after one or one and a half years
  • JeffDeWitt democoach 2013/02/15 18:03:08
    JeffDeWitt
Bang for the buck and the freedom to pick your own components.

Plus you can't get a Mac that looks this cool...

bang buck freedom components mac cool

That's the case I used to build mine.
