The "fiscall cliff" was narrowly avoided but a tax increase will still affect an estimated 160 million workers. As part of the deal on the so-called fiscal cliff, Congress extended tax breaks for middle-income families but did not extend a payroll tax cut that was set to expire this year.
As of Tuesday, working Americans saw a tax on their paychecks rise to 6.2% from 4.2% last year. Economists estimate that this could strip $115 billion in disposable income from the economy this year.

And they won't go down until Obama and his spendthrift gang of thugs leave office, and adults are put back in charge
Not only will the average (middle-class) family see almost $2,000 less this year due to the payroll tax being increased as a result of the fiscal cliff "solution". But with Obamacare taxes coming online AND the fact the Dems announced today they want a Trillion more in taxes a year EVERYONE should expect to pay more. I'm guessing the average burden will end up in the $4,000 - $5,000 range.
Just remember all of you middle-class suckers that fell for the class-warfare shtick and voted for O that you were told REPEATEDLY that none of your taxes would increase.
"YOU AIN'T SEE NOTHING YET, KID."

BTW the cliff was not avoided, since they spent all of the tax increase even before they got their hands on it.
By the way, the Social Security tax did not increase, it simply returned to its earlier level. You didn't really think that would last forever, did you?
Yeah, since I don't make a few hundred thousand a year, my taxes won't go up.
