Struggle to take 2 foreing holidays a year is being poor? For me being poor is struggle to reach the end of the month, and if you are able to do it, no poor

Did you even read what he said? "take the 2 foreign holidays each year like my better off middles" as in he can't do what middle class people can do eg go on holiday.

I think I'm middle class, and I struggle every month to pay my home little by little, going on holidays is out of the picture! Maybe my concept of poor is different...

Eh, does America have working class? In between middle and poor? Anyway there is a range of "middle class". Upper middle class can afford holidays etc. If you're barely scraping by, you're not exactly middle class. What is "poor" to you then? Homeless?

I'm not American... In Spain I'm middle (working class), but I've been living in countries as India, China, Morocco, ... so I can tell the difference. In China, were I'm now, you can see a lot of poor people, in India, many misery...; in Spain, poor is if you are not able to end the month, if you don't have enough to have a normal, no extras life, for me, going away for holidays is an extra that I can survive without

Oh sorry, should have checked the country. Anyway you can make a distinction between working class and middle class, although I suppose part of that is an association with the type of job....eg construction worker = working class, doctor = middle class....

No problem. Anyway, in Spain, before the crisis, was cheaper to pay a doctor (general medicine, no surgeon) than a good plumber!

Despite Obama being president for the last 3-plus years, my husband and I have managed to avoid becoming poor.

We are now middle class but were dirt poor when raising our daughters. It was very tough and I will never forget what it was like. Every April 15th, Tax Day here in the US, I pay my taxes, gratefully, because I have a roof over my head, food on my table, and my family around me. I don't have to fear having to choose between winter coats for my daughters at the second hand store or paying my gas bill. I'll never forget and will always help those less fortunate.

Almost everybody in the USA except Bill Gates and the guy living under the bridge considers themselves Middle Class. And the guy under the bridge will tell you that this is only temporary until he gets back on his feet.

I put Middle because I'm certainly not rich (in the material sense) and I refuse to consider myself poor. I just don't have any money.

Anyway, my lifetime goal is still to be a Working Class Hero.
