Are You Pro-Life or Just Pro-Birth?

I contend that many people are confusing pro-life and pro-birth.

Pro-life to me means you are willing to pay extra in taxes to see that the unwanted child is given a good home, education and health benefits.

Pro-Birth to me means your responsible to the unwanted child ends at birth.

I"m pro choice, and I really appreciate the question that you pose. It is something that pro-lifers need to think about.

Great question! I find it very ironic that all these so called self-righteous, "pro-life", self styled conservatives, who use religion like a club, are the first ones to go condeming anything or anyone that even alludes to the approval of family planning or abortion due to severe extinuating circumstances. Then in the same breath, shout for the dismantling of any and all social support programs to assist those same children to get any kind of a positive start in life. Or to assist their parents who are themselves struggling with overwelming circumstances to be able to effectively and positively care for them.

Wasn't directed at you, unless you identify as Pro-Birth, haha. ANd if you do, then I so whole-heartedly disagree with your entire worldview that there can be no compromise.

I'm Pro-Choice but was excluded from the poll for no apparent reason, and so due to having to choose which choice to go with I decided to be snarky.

I am Pro-choice. Not only do I think it's not my place to judge others, but I also don't think people really think through what being an unwanted child really means.

I, for one, should have been aborted. I'm not saying I wasn't loved, but I definitely came into the world to two people who had no idea what they were doing and were in a place where they didn't want to be. I was an accidental pregnancy to a young couple and an abortion would have saved years of heartache and betrayals for both my parents and I.

There is much worse than my story, I'm sure.

But the first step is to practice safe sex. Let's not get pregnant in the first place, kids.

Set up medicare for all, get rid of a bunch of unnecessary departments/bureaucracies, legalize marijuana (at minimum), reform the tax code so the rich actually pay more, get out of the middle east, stop giving all our money to criminal banks... Pretty common sense stuff that for the most part americans support anyway.

Pro-life means nothing of the sort. Thats an ideological attempt to redefine and opponent for political purposes. Its similar to a pro-lifer saying someone who is pro-choice is really pro-death. Or that the choice at hand is really having sex with the knowledge of what could happen with the options of using various forms of protection or not.

I get really annoyed when some snarky ideologue tries to define their opponent like that. It stifles discussion on topics like this and it certainly sifles the ability to reach across and really understand the other side.

Pro-life means just that - people are for the protection of a person to live.

It's not pro quality of life. It sounds to me like some pro-choice people only think life is worth living or respecting under certain terms. Its a thought, I'm not sure. Its just that often they bring up issues of harsher potential circumstance early in life as a justification to not allow that child the chance to live at all. Your life may suck kid so you may as well avoid it. Maybe there's a better illustration and I'd be glad to listen. But from a secular point of view I think life is our most important asset and it shouldn't be treated so cheaply. No one can be guaranteed a perfect or even comfortable life.
  • Xerxes,... Superman 2012/08/24 01:58:52
    Xerxes,Phantom of PHAET
Government treats life cheaply everyday, supply symbol for expendable items is XB3, this is used for pens, pencils, toilet paper, and soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. So,people who "voted " these morons into office are therefore not pro-life, your logic not mine

Government by and large shouldn't be involved in day to day life. Government shouldn't exist to guarantee results as it were. Thats my biggest issue with this way of thinking.

I have to agree with you here. It should not be a federal issue and at the very least should be handled on a state by state basis.

Personally I don't think it should be a legal issue at all and my votes would reflect that, but I understand that there is another point of view.

You find it to be your opinion. Plenty of people find a conceived child to be its own distinct life. And abortion ends that life.

A "pro-thought' woman in this day and age should be able to make adult educated choices about her personal life to avoid conception. And another living being shouldn't be treated with such disdain in the path of avoiding personal responsibility for ones own choices.

Again who is going to support them, we know you are just interested in the birth and your responsible ends there. Please don't use the tired excuse that law enforcement will track down the dead beat dads or child protective services will find the dad. Not going to happen slick

This goes right back to what I'm talking about, if a certain quality of life doesn't exist to you then life isn't worth living? If you can't be guaranteed x in your life you may as well die?

I'm interested in a persons life not being sacrificed for the convenience of another.

Women are supposed to be intelligent and empowered right? They should absolutely make their own choices and bear the responsibilities of those actions. Between existing families, charities, dads that do take responsibility, friends and yes even some limited (not total) government existence - the mom should be responsible for the choices she made.

I'm not the father or the mother. I didn't make those choices. But I am part of a human society and I can voice my opinion in how we view and treat life, thats where my responsibility lies.

I make bad choices and mistakes from time to time. But I own up to them. I don't punish someone else for that.
