As a person who remembers the pain of her wisdom teeth coming in, knowing that the only thing that provided some relief was nawing on something soft and spongy, i am for them. If cutting teeth hurts like that when when you're 16, I'd guess it feels about the same but with a full set of 32 chompers. So let the babies have their toys.

I believe in using pacifiers, but only up to a certain age. After they start getting lots of teeth, it's bad for the development of their teeth.

I use to be against and took it from my baby however, he found his thumb and that was no good .... couldn't take that away.

I'm only against them because my little girl doesn't like them. We tried getting her to use them when she was very young (3-5months old) but she just preferred sucking her thumb, so that's what we went with.

I've mixed feelings about them. I think seeing children with one always in their mouth is a disservice and tragic.

I don't think my Mother ever used them.

I never used one with my 3 kids and never thought they were necessary. But new studies show they can help with nursing babies. Study found that babies nurse less when not given a pacifier especially when the infant was in pain.

I am not really for or against. I think it depends on the child. My son didn't want to take one at all. Spit the thing out all the time. So we used other ways to soothe him. :)

Before having a child I was staunchly against them. Which proves how silly it is for people without children to judge those with them.

My son would nurse for hours. Literally. He would do it because he had a need to suck to soothe himself. A pacifier was my lifesaver. By the time he was 6 months old he was done with it.

Both my kids had them when they were infants.It kept them happy and stopped them from thumb sucking(which I absolutely hate seeing a kid do!)

They bother me when I see them. For little babies who are teething, I get it, but every time I see a toddler walking around with one, it gives me the chills.

Why not? its a healthy transition that makes weening so much easier. those people who freak out over plausible buck teeth and whatever else are just overcontrolling mom freaks

Quite frankly ..
Had binkys for my children as infants ..
by the time they were 6 months old .. neither wanted anything to do with them ..
It served a purpose ..
That sucking reflex .. when they were needing something to comfort them ..
(not necessarily hungry .. just needing to suck on something .. )
It was a good device ..
and BOTH my children are adults .. no health effects .. both College Educated too ..

Babies and toddlers are going to suck on something, if they don't have a pacifier, it will be their thumb. When the time comes, you can take the pacifier away....
