Are You Expecting to Experience Storm Effects From Hurricane Irene?
Hurricane Irene is posed to be the first major hurricane to hit the Mid Atlantic and the New England states,in more then 50 years. It could grind up the Atlantic coast.Run through New York City and plow through the New England States.
This wide swath of the North East United States that could be effected by Hurricane Irene has more then 100 million people living there. If you are in this area, please take this storm serious!
Are you one of the people that could be effected by Hurricane Irene?
What are you doing, preparing for the storm?
Do you have any advice for hurricane preparedness?
Maybe you would like to say a prayer for the people who may be effected by Hurricane Irene?

My prayers go to all who were in harms way and suffering.
How are you dublin, know you lived close to the line?
I wonder if your home's or car's insurance policy will cover the damage on your 2 vehicles!
A lot of times, these storm claims appraisers are authorized to take action on your claims,on the spot.If you wait too long, the claims process may take a lot longer to be resolved!
We have money and courage in this country we have been thrown under the bus. Yes, I can survive this but I fear others who cannot. We are tapped out in this country and we cannot continue on this trail of disaster.BO waits to make a plan for the hopeless and denied and people are really struggling to even get by.
I say shame on him while he lives off the backs of those that voted for him and has given nothing in the way of sacrifice, just a huge flying bus tour which if sacrificed could have fed and housed thousands.
I bet freshly washed clothes & hot showers never felt so good,Nancy!
Looks like Stever has some really good advice for you.
Most of us wouldn't have a clue where to start...and without power..it's a puzzle!
We're right in the expected line of the Hurricane in Brooklyn. The people in Coney Island might have problems because it's so very much like the low lying beaches of the Carolinas. They are all native New Yorkers and like the rest of us told Mayor Bloomberg he could go to hell when he literally ordered us to leave areas like this.
Nobody tells a true native New Yorker what to do and they laugh when told that it's against the law to remain. But as to me, we're in Park Slope which is in the direct path of the Hurricane but about 100 feet above sea level. We may lose our electricity and there's an excellent possibility of losing our internet service and cable TV. Personally, I'm more concerned about the safety of the Squirrels, Chipmunks and Raccoons in the wilds of Prospect Park some two blocks away.
For the first time in history, the subways are being shut down as well as our extensive bus service. To us New Yorkers, the subway that I love so much is our mobility. NYC is around 300 square miles with 450 subway stations and 350 miles of track. You can get all over very quickly and easily for only $2.25. Many of us don't even own cars because they are just an annoyance.

Most people who visit New York City just know the business area of Manhattan and the tourist trap restaurants. In point of fact, Manhattan is not representative of New Yorkers. It contains a population of about 1.5 million people out of 8 million in the city itself. The real New York is in places like my Brooklyn, right across the Hudson River and with a population of 2.5 million alone. That's where the real New York is and it will take the biggest hit.
Lower Manhattan might be in trouble and has the financial district. It also has many new co-ops populated in low lying areas by well off liberal out of towners and effete, wealthy leftie natives. These are the ones who strongly support putting up the WTC Victory Mosque while 70% of New Yorkers felt it was tasteless and provocative. Many are running out according to local news, but that's what effete liberals usually do in time of crisis. They could drown for all I care. They're not "real" New York.
Caryl and I are looking forward to this with a sense of excitement. I must admit though, that I don't think I'll enjoy walking our doggie early tomorrow morning when the full force of the hurricane will hit. I don't think our doggie will either. She loves snow but hates rain.
Then again, our doggie is very tough and enjoys danger. She might find things like this exciting. So I'll put on my military hurricane coat, close tie the hood, head into the blinding hurricane face down and tell her "you're in charge" which she understands to mean that she's temporary Pack Leader.
Where I wind up should be a hoot. I don't know where she'll take me but I know she'd never let anything happen to me.

I did go see Harry and Eddie while I was there.
