Urban legends can range from the nearly believable (earwigs crawling into people's ears to nest) to the nonsensically creepy ("Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary!").

Others, like the classic "Don't drink coke" rumor, fall somewhere in the middle.

In fact, Coca-Cola has received so much mail about supposed poisonings and terrorist plots involving their iconic beverage that they had to post a disclaimer on their website.

Several variations of the "grateful stranger" rumor have existed over the years. The people involved and details of the rumor vary, depending upon the political climate of the day, but they usually involve one person rewarding another with a tip or advice to avoid danger in response to an act of kindness. One version of the rumor surrounds a "tip" not to buy or consume Coca-Cola, implying an impending planned contamination.

A popular recent variation of the urban legend has been recurring around September 11 since 2002. The rumor suggests -- usually in the form of a chain e-mail -- that terrorists have somehow managed to poison a Coca-Cola plant.

I drink a soda about twice a year. Whether it be tainted with terrorist poison or not, our own FDA is killing us with all the crap they allow to go into our food and drinks. Anything you buy anymore is scary to consume. Everything is packed so full of carcinogens. Moderation and proper dental hygiene will cause you no ill effects from consumption of Coca-cola any more or less than any other non-diet soda. Once again, common sense rules here, but due to a lack of that in this this day and age, rumors will continue to abound and those who are uneducated will believe whatever they want to believe..

I have faith in the purity of Coca Cola. However, I don't like how acidic-tasting it is. A Russian friend of mine uses coke to clean the bathtub/toilet.

well any carbonate drinks drank regularly can cause anyone problems.carbonation is bad. i cannot consume carbonated drinks because i have pain if i do in all kinds of ways.
