Are you afraid of getting old?

You!

No offense to any elders here at all. But I do fear of getting old, and my body breaking down and shutting down as I age. I see what some old people go through at their later years. It isnt fun. Honestly I'm more afraid of that than death itself.

Nope. I'm afraid of getting sickly or senile. Getting old (or, for that matter, dying) doesn't worry me all that much.

I've seen very old and frail people down at the beach on their own just starring out to sea and looking sad. The thought of being to old to get a hug by a human or the ocean isn't something I could cope with.

I work in a nursing home and all of the people there have photos of when they were young and many of them tell you about their lives and you realize how short life is. You think one day if I live that long I will be in this situation myself. Just hanging out waiting to die. I do have hopes that I can be like my friend Al he's 84 years old still runs 2 miles a day (outside) not on a treadmill. He still bowls on a league, He coaches softball, I can only hope that I'm in that shape at that age.

A little bit. Sometimes. But I know it's inevitable and there is nothing I can do to stop it, so it's kind of a pointless fear. Most of us want to live a long time, but I think a lot of us are terrified of the consequences that come with it. Then again, they are far better than dying young.

It's not so much the gettingold that scares me but the fact that in an entire life there isn't enough time to do EVERYTHING there is to do in this world. So I am afraid sometimes that I will not finish what I am meant to do here.

LOL, I am old!! Nah, I 'm not afraid. Life marches on and there is no way to stop it, you either spend your time in front of the mirror with some expensive anti wrinkle cream or you spend it living life and having a good time.....It is what you make it.

It's inevitable, and there's nothing you can do about it. But you can develop some healthy habits: Don't smoke or drink to any excess. Check out healthy diets and cook at home as much as possible. Eating out; especially at fast food joints is not good for you. Learn to enjoy regular exercise. It's fun. Buy some good hiking shoes and a Field Guide To Birds, or Trees, or Insects, or any excuse you want to use to go for long walks. The best advice I can think of is to read the Bible on a regular basis. You'll come to understand that there's no reason to fear old age or death.

I'm more afraid of what will happen to my body as I get old. I've always said that I don't want to be sitting around in adult diapers being fed through tubes and not being able to move/speak/interact with anyone. If I ever get to that point, I just want to be put out of my misery. That's not a good quality of life.

Then take care of your body in your younger years, and your body will not degenerate like others who did not do so.

But no matter how well you take care of yourself there is nothing you can do to prevent getting old and dying. I work in a Nursing home and what you don't see there are a bunch of fat people, drug users, alcoholics, or heavy smokers. These people all died before getting old.

Of course that's true, but you don't have to let yourself go to pot to become a broken down invalid either, i.e. broken hips, barely able to walk, etc. ad infinitum. For instance, the broken hips that are so prevalent are due to years of imbibing phospohoric acid. The body takes calcium out of the bones to neutralize the ph acid, otherwise you'd die from it. As this process is repeated and calcium is not properly replenished through the ingestation of edibles with high calcium content, osteoporosis sets in place, and bones break from having so many holes in them.
Another instance is not exercising like you should and getting enough sunlight. The human body is not made to just sit around, we strengthen our systems through exercise, and sunlight gives you vitamin d, which is needed to really absorb calcium like you should from dairy products, for instance. And dehydration will lead to wrinkles and further damages the system.
Take care of yourself, and your body will take care of you.

I am enduring the aging process, but to fear it is akin to worry, a waste of the presence of life. I'd recommend the Sprint 8 program for those who want to forestall aging naturally.

GETTING OLDER IS JUST GETTING CLOSER TO ETERNITY WITH THE LORD.....

No Fear.... I'm just about there and yet Young people die too!

    Day to Day with Jesus,
Keeps me happy all the day
No threat no fear no longing to be here
but in the arms of my Savior
    I'm ready and listening
    And anytime He calls
I know I will be ready

Last week I'm pulling out of a friend's drive way. I see a ladder against the house next door. There on the roof was his 88 year old neighbor, with a blower getting rid of leaves on the roof.

No one told him he was too old to be fooling around with ladders and blowers on roof tops.

    It's all about attitude.

Yes, that has to be one of my biggest fears about life. I had to do some short time community service work in a rehab facility once. It was filled with old people with all sorts of gross stuff happening. Some of them were mentally sharp but too many of them didn't seem altogether in their minds. It was a scary look into my possible future. I've tried to be more respectful to older people since then although some it them make that very difficult. More than death, I fear losing abilities and being able to take care of myself.
