The cold war was running at high heat, they were scaring the crap out of us in nursery school with the weekly "cover your head and hide under your desk from the H-bomb" drills. On TV they showed the blast and drawback did to buildings 5 miles from the ground zero, and if you looked out of our classroom window, across the playground, 100 yards past the fence was a DEW line coordination hub that relayed the information out to the silos we passed when we drove out in country side. Then I had a few personal incidents happen. So when I was 4 1/2-years-old, while I didn't phrase it that way at the time, I decided that if I was afraid of dying, I would never learn how to live.

i have been really close to death more than once (and been clinically dead) and i know by now that its not gonna hurt, and that there is no place any force on this earth that could possibly put me in a hell worse than life

Death is only a transition nothing more. More like the ending of one story or phase and on to the next. That's all. In most cases it can be seen as an awakening to ur true self. It just depends on how u want to see it.

I'm not afraid of death - but I'm certainly not ready to die. I love life too much and would like to live long enough to meet my grandchildren, and watch them grow up.

I think it is quite natural to be a little afraid of the unknown. Funny thing is I believe people think about it more when they are young than they do when they get older. There is an acceptance as you age because you know it is for the best and the world would not get better unless one generation takes over from another. Old people fight change while young people accept it. Live everyday and don't think about how long you have. You would not want to live in a world where all your family and friends have gone and you are left alone with nobody who remembers the things you do. That is were the expression, "New friends are silver but the old are gold" come from.

I'm not afraid of the fact, but a little bit about the how. I've seen some people go through a very slow and painfull death, and that's scary.
I'm young, but better dye tonight in my sleep that at 80 like that.

Why would I be afraid of something that's going to happen no matter what I do? If you really want to live you can't be afraid of dying.

Nope. But I'm a Christian and I'm actually not afraid of crossing over!

On the other hand, we could construe the question to mean, are we afraid of INFLICTING death on someone else. You know - just pushing them over into the next dimension. I wouldn't want to do that to anyone. Well, maybe except those muslim extremists who want to kill all of us and our families, and who claim they have so-many virgins waiting for them when they die. I've wondered - just who those virgins are: other ugly, horny muslim guys? Maybe the jihad joke's on them - they get one another for eternity! In that case, who's the wife?

I make jokes about Death all the time. It's going to happen anyway, and why worry about death when life is right here right now? Live life to the fullest!

Death, on the other hand, probably can't wait to take me as revenge for all of my years of picking on him! :P

It depends upon if I see it coming or not. I got trapped under a boat underwater once and as I lost consciousness I felt a sort of calmness descend upon me. On the other hand a mugger pulled a gun on me in a dark alley once and I was shaking for about an hour afterwards.

I know its inevitable but id be lying if I said I wasn't. I'm not ready to die, there's so much more I want to do. Plus I face death daily being in the military so I'm not so much afraid of dying of old age as i am afraid of being shot or blown up.

I used to be, because a lot of people died who were close to me when I was growing up. You just have to accept the fact that it happens to everyone.
