Are You a Spender or a Saver?

if money is burning a hole in my pocket im going to spend it....most likely on high heels:)

Both, I buy what I want and need but I never go overboard. Hopefully my kids will have a nice inheritance.

I am a bit of both, but I also like to spend the money I earn while I am still alive, you cannot take the money with you when your dead.

Shoot, I'm so frugal that I've got a 23 year old fridge that's spotless and still running, a van we use for work and fishing that's got 200k on it and it's still going, basic cable on an old box 32" tv....
Last years "dressy" jeans were this summer's faded blues w/the thighs worn holey and they will be next year's cut-off shorts.
I research products and weigh quality vs cost...I'm not a coupon clipper but that's bc I found I bought a lot of stuff we didn't need or use, but then again, it's just me and my husband now as our daughter's moved out.
We have savings but I deny that we have savings. I'd rather go a few days without till payday with $20 after I pay bills than to hit up my savings. My husband's in construction and our luck could turn on a dime. I have to be ready.
We both have simple needs...not into lots of techno stuff...we use the free flip phones that come with the simplest plan...no internet on our phones and stuff.
We even heat with wood to offset the electric heat, which we only use in the bedrooms and bathrooms in the NJ winters.
I didn't use to be this way but when our daughter was in school, everything cost so much that we just learned to do without so that she could have it all and now it's a way of life.

I have to be a saver.

My wife and I have just shy of $200K in the bank and nearly $600K in investments. Our only loans are the house and one car. We live well but not extravagantly.

We have both invested and saved for many years and it is paying off.

I'm a natural born saver. My sister is a natural born spender. At Christmas, we'd get $200 each. She'd have hers spent that week while by next Christmas, I'd still have about $25 or so of mine left over.

I used to be more of a saver.

Being in college, it is good to save a bit for when you really need it instead of trying to live like a rich person. That and avoid unnecessary things say body art or what such if you are going to dip in the red. I had my fix early this years now saving up what I got until I get working again.

Well, kind of depends. Is it really worth going all that way for $5? Is $5 that big of a deal?

YES. O god yes. Especially when I'm making $0 an hour.

Plus cashing cans is FUN. I love it. I love putting the can in the machine, and hearing the crush, oh god how I love hearing the crush, thats the sound of money. And when I hear the nickle roll into the coin slot, I get shivers and my knees get weak.

Also, minimum wage is $7/hr. I can make $5 in well under 1 hour. (30 mins?) So the money I make returning cans is on par with what I'd be making with a job. Only I'm getting paid to have fun and I don't have a crazy boss screaming at me over my shoulder.

The way I was raised, I was taught the value of money. Thats why even though I'm unemployed, I'll NEVER become one of these fools who live above their means, WASTE money, and go into debt buying flat screen televisions that they can't afford.

We must live in pretty different states then, because minimum wage in my state is $8.25/h. But even then, nearly every company pays more than minimum wage. For instance, even though minimum wage in my state is $8.25/h, a sales associate at Wal-Mart will be payed $8.75/h.

That said, the way you described this all... is kind of creepy :/

I've been known to do both actually.

Definitely a "saver." I buy a lot of things, but I make lists of everything I want and, with few special exceptions, purchase them in order of price. So far, it's a system that's worked great.

Peace of mind and security are far more valuable than merchandise, to me.
