I prefer grammar police. And no matter what anybody tells you, grammar and spelling are important. Especially on the internet where often times the only thing representing you is a smallish picture and the way you write. Why would you want to come across as sounding uneducated?

I think it reflects poorly on a person's level of education, general attitude and sense of self-worth by allowing impossible to miss mistakes in grammar and or spelling to go uncorrected. It demonstrates laziness and detracts from what the person is attempting to communicate. I pay significantly less attention to a post if it is written at a 1st grade level.

I won't call someone out on it unless we are in debate and they are being a butt. I sometimes skip questions/polls/posts that have grammar mistakes.

I dislike people who nitpick, I can spell and I know what is right, but I am not a very good typist, So I occasionally make mistakes, and there are several"Azzhats" whom take a perverse pleasure in pointing it out.

I always attempt to create grammatically correct sentences. I think that poor grammar hinders communication, but I will never deride someone based on a simple error. Pointing out the errors of others does not make me feel superior. If I point out errors it is designed to promote awareness. I rarely do so though, because I find it to be rude and snobby. When I witness the errors of others I always remind myself to be more careful.

I can be, though. Especially when I see someone attack someone else for a perceived lack of intelligence, and while deriding that person's spelling or grammar, the attacker proceeds to mangle or misspell every other word or uses the worst possible grammar. Those types of morons are fair game for the Grammar Nazi. However, a simple typo or misspelling or an unintended breach of proper grammar will go unmentioned.

Sometimes. I don't mind people who make simple mistakes, especially if they are young.

but I have no patience for people who "talkk lyke dis". I usually won't say anything about it, but it gets on my nerves.

You may not understand science, math may bore you, but proper grammar and spelling are mere memorization.

Were it in my power, using "axe" for "ask" or "conversate" for "converse" would be capital offenses. As would promoting the loss of possessive nouns ("brother car" instead of "brother's car", etc.)

Such linguistic laziness is even more egregious online where all we have is the printed word to convey our message, a message which may be difficult enough for someone for whom English is a second language without shortcuts, abbreviations, slang, and just plain incorrect grammar.
