I am afraid so and I don't know how it got started. First you show of the S/P set you bought in Europe and before you know it someone else gives you a S/P set from somewhere else. I have one for every single occasion your can name. Quite interesting but not in the hundreds thank goodness. I also have so many dishes and table color combinations that people call me Hyacinth Bucket.
I collect flamingos, and sea shells. Anything to make my house like a beach house in the middle of landlocked North Atlanta. It started with collecting shells on the seashores, and then morphed into what amounts to a huge collection now. And the flamingos, actually have a whole room called my flamingo room. Love it!
Too much stuff:
Comic books
Coins
Swarovski crystal
Dolls of every kind
Kaleidoscopes
Teddy bears
Stamps
Matchbox cars
Beach glass...only what I find, and only 100% smoothed out
Imported toys (got ahead of the anime/manga mania!)
Unusual candles
Perfume
Lego sets
Crap...forgot my lighters, 45 pairs of sunglasses, and pens....too many effin pens...I couldn't use them all up in five lifetimes, but I guarantee another new or unusual/cool pen comes out, and I'll buy it!
Based on MY spending alone, our economy should have recovered a year ago!
Peanuts stuff (Charlie Brown/Snoopy). I haven't added to my hockey card collection in quite some time--not so many card shops around as before, and the ones that do exist seem to focus more on football and baseball.
i collect many different things. some things my family doesn't like.
g.i.joe, transformers, robotech, nerf guns, star wars
i have a pretty good collection of themed t-shirts
also have a number of action thriller novels
bb guns, i would like to add air soft and paint ball guns
Movies - mostly classics. You name it I got it.
Music - Frank Sinatra, Frank Sinatra, Frank Sinatra sound, Jazz, R&B;, R&R;, Country, pop music of the 40's, 50's, and 60's, show tunes, you name it.
Books - primarily fiction. Steinbeck, Hemingway, Edna Ferber, Mailer, Grisom, etc.
I attempted to be one many years ago. Got all the basic materials for appropriately preserving National Geographic magazines, believe it or not. Finally gave them all away as I became quite anal about it. Decided collecting is not something a person like me should do! But I love seeing other people's collections, whatever they are.
There used to be a store in one of the local malls here that carried some of the more medieval hardware (swords and knives), along with some other things. Too bad it's closed up.
