Are we spoiled?

You!

Do you pick up a piece of fruit or a vegatable and see a "brusied" spot (as my grandmother called them or a "rotten" spot as my kids call them? Do you throw out the fruit/vegtable because of it. And choose a more appealing one or cut the bad part off and use/eat it anyway?

I just cut that part off and eat the rest of it unless if it's moldy, then that kind of crosses the line.

If the food is damaged/bruised at the store, then I don't buy it. If I have it and it gets bruised/begins to rot orwilt, I just cut that part out.

Depending on who and how you live I would imagine? Personally I live by the rule of "Waste not want not" times change and money doesn't last unless one makes sure to not throw it away no? :-)

All the technology and advancements we have today. We are definitely spoiled. The bruised fruit thing is only a minor example.

Heck, I used to bruise apples, pears, and peaches on purpose then let them sit for a while before eating them. Try an Italian Prune when it's been on the tree so long it bursts with juice. They get so sweet, but are still tart around the center. Good stuff Maynard.

Nah, I'll eat the fruit. If it ends up not being okay to eat, I'll know once I've eaten it or if it really looks molded or rotten. We had oranges and they started to look bruised, but I figured they'd be fine to eat so I ate one.

After the first bite, I noticed the orange tasted like soda, and that it had a weird tang to it. It was still quite delicious, but my stomach felt odd after about ten minutes. I ate the whole thing. The next day my stomach was not feeling so hot, and my chest was somewhat tight. My mom made me throw the oranges away. I'm weird in the aspect of eating things I may not like to not waste food, except vegetables, however.

As a society, I think we are more spoiled than people in other places but to answer your question, I just cut off that bit and eat the rest.

That is a matter of perspective. If your shopping at the store and spending your money I will put back a bruised piece of fruit. At home I'll just cut that part out and eat or cook with it. Waste not want not.

It's kinda of like when you get fast food to bring home. A lot of people throw all those little packs of ketchup, mustard, etc out but we have a big ziploc bag we save them all in for those times we run out before we go shopping. Same with all the plastic ware. Save them and use them when the kids have a sleep over.

Just keep the ketchup, mustard and the like in the fridge. They have a fridge life of about 6 to 9 months. We rotate ours as we put them in the bag so the oldest is used first.

Just cut the bad part out with a good sharp paring knife and you're set. Don't waste food. Save more money.
