No ,they won't last that long ...with all the gadgets you would think yes... but eventually they will wear out and the gadgets won't work forever...Too bad all this money can't be spent on something worth while like food and new clothes for the poor one pair = school clothes for a couple kids

They are worth whatever the consumers will pay.

LOVE to see all the stories of robberies, thefts and riots over these sneakers though, just proves sociology and anthropology.

Obscenely priced, hope James and Nike have their condolence letters made up when kids start clipping one another for a pair of these Chinese or Vietnamese made masterpieces. Something really wrong here when the economy is in the toilet and they are selling $300.00 gym shoes.

Rather than $300 sneakers, why can't many of these ghetto idiots spend $29.00 for "Hooked on Phonics" and learn how to talk?

They are not making any money out of them . . . $15 goes to the Old Chinese Woman who made them, and $300 goes to James.

No, they are of the same quality of every Nike sneaker made in that particular Chinese factory...and no, they won't last a single year.

In the old days we used "brands" to signify ownership, like branding a steer. Now corporations "brand" the stuff we wear, sporting goods, etc.

So, Do we own the stuff? Or, does the stuff own us?

One exception, the New Balance special arch support shoes my daughter has to have so she can walk like a normal person-worth the $100 a pair. Otherwise, she cries with foot pain, and walks like she has a crippling injury. Poor thing.

The only way that I can imagine a sneaker really being worth $300, is if it had Diamonds in it.

If people are stupid enough to buy them at that price. It's called capitalism folks. The price of the product has a direct correlation to perceived value. If they're too expensive then don't buy them.

Not you and definitely not to me. The great thing about capitalism is that you don't have to buy it. If nobody buys this shoe at $315 guess what happens? The price goes down. Same thing with Apple products. The only reason why prices are so high is because they can get away with it.

It was ironic to me that some "civil rights advocate" was calling on Nike to NOT sell these because the people that want them are usually poor and trying to buy school supplies.

Capitalism is just not the "civil rights leaders" deal i guess.

Funny though, how MOST of those super expensive shoes do end up in the hoods.

It's unfortunate. John D. Rockefeller when he was still alive once said (and I'm paraphrasing here) that if you took all the money in the world and gave it to the poor, it would still end up with the rich. The reason being is that generally speaking, many poor people are poor because they make poor financial choices. They can't see what's more important between having shiny new expensive sneakers or fresh food for the week. They spend all their money trying to look like they have more money than they have and end up dirt broke in the process while those who have more money don't always look like they have a ton of money. I have plenty of clients who make six figure incomes who truly enjoy driving used Honda's and shopping at Wal-Mart/Sam's Club. They're not really cheapskates either because there are items that they do splurge on. One person LOVES to splurge on good quality steaks I kid you not.

You're right in regards to the fact that most of the time these shoes do end up in the hood. That's what they're marketed to. Everyone in the hood wants to either be the next rap superstar or a professional basketball/football player. It's funny, I sometimes think the best way to stop the cycle is to remove people from the environment that they're in in the first place. I do what I can with Junior Achievement or the Center for Economic Progress but it just isn't enough.

Excellent. Retraining only happens when people get over the mentality they are exposed to daily. Look at Whtiney Houston, her family said she hated her public image, she just wanted to be "hood". Mentally, things have to change before they can change economically.

I see a lot of welfare dwelling folks here, who have to have an Altima/Maxima, Impala/Malibu, or a European car-but cannot afford the maintenance, and put gigantic wheels on them which further erodes all motor functions. Have to dress in knock off high end labels for appearances sake, have to have the Hair/nail thing once a week, and they are living on the system from the cradle to the grave, and it crosses all color lines.

Insanity is continuing to allow these people to NOT participate in the public education system, and NOT force them to be productive.

Just another reason for punks to beat up people, it's stupid and anyone outside of the rich should not even think about it. But i'm sure some welfare checks will buy a few pairs.

Is a Mercedes worth $80,000 or a Rolls Royce worth over $200,000? WORTH IS "WHAT SOMEONE PAYs".

That's true of course. But in cars there has always been a difference. Our studies here indicate that a Rolls isn't worth the money, and neither is a Cadillac if you can get a Chevy with the same equipment. Your car companies are getting back to offering autos that are unique to the brand and model again, and that's good. But people (being people) will spend hard earned money on frills and the unnecessary. The image thing, as you know. That's something I never understood. When I lived in your country, I did bow to fashion by having long hair and dressing somewhat in fashion but never considered status symbols as having anything to do with.... well...; anything.
I guess I've always been more into function and prefer "understated elegance" to bling. Your analysis is spot on and opens the door to so many questions as well as social issues. Thanks for making me think; too few here do.
