Are there more wimpy men today than 50 years ago because of the way parents raise kids nowadays?

I cringe when I hear some of today's parents talk about how they must fawn and coddle their children, without teaching them how to be self-sufficient.

Many people on here are responding by mentioning 'children' even though the thread was specifically aimed at attacking, oops I mean addressing males as being wimpy. Also, what is meant by being wimpy? I think males have enough double standards today to deal with without being attacked by both feminists and conservative masculinists at the same time.

What is happening today is that males are finally standing up for themselves against ridiculous masculine gender expectations placed upon them. It is bad enough that many women write articles attacking males today but it is even worse when men write these as well. The responses on this thread also show why males are doing poorly in school and why females are doing better, because of unfair gender behavior expectations placed upon males but not as much with females. In fear of being perceived as 'intelligent' instead of masculine men are destroying themselves. No wonder more boys are dropping out of school and committing more suicides than girls today.

IDK if wimpy is the adj. but they defiantly lack any sense of personal responsibility for themselves.

Actually I don't know. But I was raised by a Marine Mastery Gunnery Sgt. And he would never let me forget what it means to be a man.

We are too soft on all of our children. But to do otherwise is seen as bad parenting these days.

I think so, all kids (in general) these days seem to feel too "entitled", but I don't know that it is their fault, it is the way they were raised in many cases. Entitlement and political correctness have resulted in what we have now.

Most kids are clueless about how the rest of the world lives or has lived. They think they are entitled to stuff like the OWS movement kids. We paid for college and therefore we deserve jobs and the evil wall street people are not giving them to us--what kind os insane reasoning is that!

Brawn, masculine, petty fighting, tough attitudes have little to do with success in today's day and age.

Intelligence, good credit scores, punctuality, civility, consideration will get you far in today's day and age.

The gorilla-caveman attitude fades as the swave articulate intelligent attitudes reign, people see that as "wimpy"...... but i dunno

I don't think that fighting is what a strong (non-wimpy) man is about, IMHO a man who is not a wimp is one who stands up and takes responsibility, it has nothing to do with aggressiveness.

The world changed in the 1970's mothers started to baby their kids and soft soap them, also the draft ended so there was no military duty to harden up the menfolk.

They constantly hover over their kids supervising EVERY little detail of what they can and cant do, say, play with, read, watch on TV, wear, eat, drink what jacket to wear. there is one in my area who DRIVES the kids to the end of the driveway to await the school bus.

Most definately! But there are many men who look "wimpy" on the outside who are one hundred times more manly on the inside than their outwardly masculine counterparts. For example; who is more of a man; the big, brauny, "manly" OJ Simpson..
    OJ simpson
Or the non threatening, scrauny, "wimpy" Mahatma Ghandhi?

I don't belive for a moment that wimpy is the right word. Many young men just don't feel the need to fit into the stereotype of what "masculine" is. They are being themselves, and I am proud of them for that.

What you just said is downright offensive. Gay men are still indeed men. Perhaps you are thinking of a stereotypical, old-fashioned man?
You are welcome to your opinion, but be aware that there are many types of men, and it takes all types to make up our world.

Yep, we used to watch shows like Rockford Files, Kojak, McCloud, Cannon, Alias Smith and Jones, Maverick, etc. But now look how many shows are inundating television where women are in charged and/or are the heroines. Nothing wrong with that and some shows are good, but the liberal media/hollywood is depicting a woman's world that isn't quite there in reality.

    Absolutely.

The attacks on the nuclear family by Feministas, Cloward-Piven, Gay-Rights have coelesced into producing less men who know how to take charge of things and know how to stand solidly for independence.

Just ask the women who miss them.

Not necessarily. I do think that people are more rude than they were 50 years ago.
Then again, racism isn't as big an issue today, so it probably evens out.

The wimpy men of today were raised 30 years ago.
They are a product of that.

The wimpy KIDS of today are a result of the childrearing of today.
(Don't get me started....some of them have enlisted.)

Still......the wimpy men of today were NOT a result of the childrearing philosophies of today.

They are a result of how they were raised 20, 30, 40, and YES 50 years ago.
Or do you assume that there are NO wimpy men over 50.

Or did you think that they were still being "reared" within the last 5 years?
(Not that I'm totally ruling THAT out either)

I think the sexual revolution had a lot to do with it, too many men just don't want to be responsible anymore, and that is what I think started it. Also, the influence of TV and movies, and the whole idea that a geek can't be manly which is total BS. I am married to a very manly geek, and I really appreciate him.

I wouldn't know, I wasn't around 50 years ago. I do think that men AND women are a bit more jaded and hard in some respects than years before. I find that more and more people are just grossly irresponsible.
