So I watch The Biggest Loser (obviously not now because it's off season haha) But I always see the games and promotions for Bob and Jillian. It got me thinking last night. Bob and Jillian always seem to pinpoint an extremely unhappy aspect of these people's lives to blame their obesity on. Does that mean that everyone who is overweight has something that has made them become this way? Are only fit people the happy ones? I know lots of skinny unhappy people, and lots of overweight people that seem happy...are they just fooling me?

Scientific, medical and psychological research say yes. On the flip side of the coin there is also a strong link between under-eaters and depression.

When you eat well, your body has the right levels of vitamins to produce chemicals such as dopamine and seratonin. When you exercise, these chemicals are released causing sensations such as happiness, contentment, excitement and euphoria. That's the basics of the situation, but I have listed some articles on the topic for your reading pleasure.

I too know people of all sizes who purport to be happy, but one can often find that an addiction of any kind is linked to some deep rooted issue that is not being dealt with. This can be as simple as body image concerns or as complex as childhood abuse. Sad, but true.

It's just a problem... Not sure why so many people are overweight these days but they are.. It's just amazing to really see how many people are overweight... I think what we see on TV is one part, but taking responsibility in one's health is a life decision that one must make and stay committed to.. and exercise needs to be part of your daily routine... Staying fit isn't easy and you can see that from the Biggest Loser, but it can be done and I don't think people exercise enough.. We all make time to work, eat and sleep.. now you need to find time to exercise...

Its just the ones that are so overweight that it effects their health and then stops them doing normal everyday things. But hey its not just being fat that can do that. They're just the ones that advertise it to everyone.

I'm overweight, and not very happy, but that's only because I haven't accomplished much.

Hardly a kid, I'm 47. When I was a kid we called them sissies boys stripped them down to their tiddy whiteys and duct taped them to trees.

Pfft there were no emos back then! Also, that's mean, no wonder you are all sad now, wracked with remorse I suppose. :(

Yes there where, they just didn't dress in black. Don't you know what a sissy boy is? It's an old school emo.
Remorse? That's for people who get caught. If you dig the hole ahead of time you don't have to worry about that.

Well, that is sad you don't feel any remorse for your cruelty to others, but you also seem blissfully ignorant of fashion, music and subculture history. Let alone the use of English language and in particular modern colloqialisms.

Fear not my friend, the cruel and ignorant will have their comeuppance, although I suppose being cruel and ignorant kind of IS the comeuppance. Hmmm. Plus I guess with your whole depression thing on top of that...oh, it's just too sad.

If you knew what an emo was, I would suggest you look them up, they also think everyone is sad, you would have something in common.

Unhappiness has no size. Despite what the media would have you believe, there are overweight people who are happy with themselves the way they are.
