A group of figure-skating girls says hockey-playing boys are stealing their time on the rink -- and they're not going to just sit around on the sidelines.
Members of Figure Skating in Harlem protested the number of peak hours they're allotted at a state ice rink, chanting "Don't hate, let us skate" and holding signs insisting: "Girls Are People Too!!," the New York Daily News reports.

The girls get 4.5 of the 14 peak hours available per week at the Riverbank State Park ice rink, state parks officials say. The remaining time goes to wealthy private-school kids from Manhattan and the Bronx and to the coed Riverbank hockey program, which is made up of mostly boys.
The skaters say that's not enough time for them to practice, so they're forced to take a 90-minute subway ride to another rink.
"It's not fair when we have a rink right here in Harlem," Wendy Ngala, 13, told the News.
Dan Keefe, a parks spokesman, said the girls were offered more hours in the morning before school, but they weren't interested.
"They want peak-time hours," he told the News.
Sharon Cohen, executive director of Figure Skating in Harlem, rebutted: "We should not get last priority on ice time," she said. "Why don't [the high school hockey teams] take the morning hours?"

Yes+16I thought it was a joke the first time I saw a group of boys take over an ice-skating rink with their pucks and clubs...but no..it was an attempt to run the figure skaters off the ice...so THEY could play a game. My daughter was on that ice...and they were extremely aggressive and rude to her and all the rest of the Figure Skaters. What a bunch of punks.

xD

If you do the math, you'll find that, assuming there are two hockey teams, it's divided fairly. Assuming there are three, (Manhattan, the Bronx, and the Riverbank program), then the math puts the girls with more than their fair share of time.
Whatever happened to earning your place?
If you want equal time bring equal revenue. Simple as that.
And since when are public spaces limited to those that bring in money?
Enough feminist nonsense for one day.
Here are the facts: you have no idea what the attendance is, or if this is even where the competitions are. We are talking about practices. You have no idea whether refreshments are served and how much money they make -- neither do I. However, it is just as likely there is no money made as lots of money made. At my middle school, there were no refreshments, and no admission was charged. Same at my kids' NY public school for sports on school grounds. Any refreshments served there were done by the parents association -- no revenue for the venue.
Also, as sports go, hockey probably isn't any more popular in NY City than figure skating is.
Everything now-a-days is about making money, right ?
So I'm guessing that thee hockey teams pay thee rink more money so they get more time .
Which is fair . Thee rink isn't being sexist, or anything . It's business .

This rink is in Harlam. Why in the hell do "rich private school brats" from Manhattan need to come to harlam? Why are the kids from the Bronx needing to come to Harlam? If these groups are taking away from people that actually live in Harlam there is something much bigger going on behind the scenes than we can see. And since they are members of Figure Skating of Harlam...it stands to reason that they ARE from Harlam.
