I have a fake tree so it doesn't matter, people should just all buy fake trees it saves you money and it saves trees and things like this don't happen

Yes, they are. They're no different than the trees in the numerous acres that have been burned in wildfires except that they are in the house! Why risk it when they have artificial trees that look so real and are re-usable?

I like answering Christmas questions in April!

Christmas trees have to be properly treated and kept away from possible fire sources. Artificial trees are much better today (than they were years ago) and a heck of a lot safer than natural trees (not to mention less expensive in the long run).

I love real trees in the home at Christmas. And yes you need to be aware that they can go up like a box of matches. It's a good idea to keep them away from open flames.

    Chop your own tree
    keep it watered
    turn your lights off
    don't pile up around it
Throw it away when it is dry

Noggins are built to keep us safe. use yours, and you should be fine.
    check your alarms
buy a new extinguisher and keep it close
check for shorts, burned bulbs, and that all connections are clear and safe
    Plastic trees can burn, too.

*I have known personally a family who lost their home on Christmas Eve and had to live off the chairity of our town. I have seen the danger caused by tree fires. I hold to my opinion.

It's the visitors that are a danger to the tree, at times. Sometimes too much eggnog is involved.

One must take of the tree. Practice care and caution. Your house is more likely to catch fire as a consequence of not keeping the dryer vent and filter clean.

Did you hear about those special Christmas Trees? They wait for you to pay about $40, pick them up, shove 'em or strap 'em in/around the car, take them home, decorate them all pretty, water them... then when you're all asleep... BAM! They spontaneously combust! You never see it coming... It makes quite a mess in the living room.

They do it on purpose you know... evil trees...

I have a fake tree. Besides the MythBusters already did tests and the lights won't cause a tree to start on fire. Only poor electrical or judgement.
